not sure why you’re sitting in the negative it’s literally true. sociologists call it “the cult of the gun.” it goes beyond just “the problem is the guns” and into “the problem is the relationship with the guns.” we’re one of only two nations on earth where upper middle class families commonly take photos of themselves with guns for holidays, and the other one is israel. we have it ingrained in us that gun is more than just a tool or a weapon, but instead a monument to our identities, frequently with that identity being tied to masculinity.

then you have to dig into the motivations behind most school shootings. the profile of most school shooters is incredibly consistent. they’re usually older boys or young men with an interest in manosphere identity politics. we usually just say “incel” but it’s bigger than that. incels are just one subculture within the manosphere, and the school shooters are coming from all across the manosphere.

additionally we don’t talk about school shootings as what they are. i have survived two school shootings. it wasn’t until 13 years after the second experience that someone explained to me that these are terrorist attacks. they are terrorist attacks because the motivations of the shooters are usually to influence politics more towards something that they want. people with an education in how our society is structured are going to be more likely to take their frustrations and dedicate their energy to organizing.

this is not what happens with school shooters though. the reason for this is is that when they get cut off from one last tether to their perceived sense of masculinity, they go to reclaim their masculinity in the way that’s been taught to them rs what it means to be a man: through omnidirectional violence. the goal of their terrorism is to make others see them and to make sure that the targets of their hate, usually women, particularly queer and minority women, live their day to day lives with more fear of men.

just so people know, in case this is unfamiliar, cops have been doing this to indigenous women for decades, particularly in the Pacific Northwest, Western Canada, and near the black hills (Montana, the Dakotas). what ICE is doing is not new, it is an expansion of this violence to more target groups. i advocate for the abolishment of ICE because the USA’s modern day slave catchers cannot be reformed. their existence has been engaged in the latin american genocide since they were established. further, though, i need people to understand that the abolishment of ICE will not represent an end but a beginning. we need societal reform beyond the elimination of just one racist police force

Given the events that followed in The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic after the crushing of both the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Makhnovshchina i can sympathize with the people there having a distrust of the man who sponsored the Red Cossacks to do that crushing. I can also understand the warriness of uplifting Cossack identity since the ultra-nationalists place such a heavy emphasis on the aesthetics of those groups and their concerted efforts to erase, in particular, the Galitzyen Cossacks and the Zaporozhian Cossacks’ legacies

i’m going to say the 7th generation, but for a different reason. you chose it for community, i choose it for continuity. those consoles were the standard targets for games companies for an uncommonly long time. consoles that came before and since haven’t matched that. some of this, i think, is due to them kind of being architectural dead ends. that was the last console generation where the hardware wasn’t just PC hardware but a little bit different. the PS3 in particular is an incredible feat of human ingenuity with second hand PS3s being hard to find at reasonable prices since the US military depends on them for nuclear research. but all this cleverness made them too expensive to develop for corporations seeking to design hardware to sell at a loss to play games sold at a markup.

but during the era of the 7th generation? it was incredible. whichever console you chose you would have so many options for games that would give you incredible and unique experiences. and the hardware exclusivity was an actual real constraint sometimes with developers knowing they were making a PS3 exclusive or a 360 exclusive targeting that hardware to get every drop of performance out of the hardware, whereas now it’s just a form of manufactured scarcity since new consoles are on the same architecture as PCs nowadays.

the games that have come since that generation also haven’t had any fundamental paradigm shifts in how they’re played that makes them more fun either. there have been some paradigm shifts that have made gaming less safe and healthy to engage in with companies shifting the brain chemistry of their players by creating addictive structures in the rulesets and paradigms of the games.

in conclusion: 7th generation good, industry bad

i think we’d draw wisdom from pre-colonial societies who responded to community members violating consensual paradigms of existing with community based corrections. the challenge i have is that on the Eurasian continent something went awry and when the most extreme punishment in this paradigm, exile, was assigned enough, eventually the exiled created their own domination societies that would go on to eliminate the societies that had exiled them (examples include the Kievan Rus’, the Romans, and the Huns). part of a realistic thought process towards solarpunk means asking ourselves how we prevent domination societies from re-arising

my issue is the context under which you and i are having in the first place. Bobby Vylan has been labeled as making calls for violence for calling for the dissolution of the enforcement arm of a genocidal occupying force. while there may be elements that do not find this tolerable, overall the people are either complicit through their inaction or are glad for this to be what their government is doing, just as the issue in the united states, russia, or israel as global fascism is on the rise is a mixture of enthusiastic participation or apathetic inaction. we’re much deeper into Martin Niemöller’s poem than people seem to be realizing…

the issue is that by framing calling the end of the apartheid enforcement mechanism of an ethnostate as discrimination, Germany has normalized and sanewashed a genocidal ethnostate. further, the tying of Jewish identity in Germany to the modern settler colonial project of Israel is harmful to the Jewish diaspora: it does the opposite of Germany’s stated aims. there are many kinds of Jew in the world, but by deferring all discussion of Jewish identity to an Ashkenazi supremacist entity, Germany has committed themselves to a political position of only recognizing those Jews who are themselves the most like Germans from the ~1600 years of central European contact.
