I just want new games

Worst of both worlds.

No new games and no morrowind remake.

I hope they leave morrowind alone, these remakes are mostly just insulting facsimiles of the original works

We have OpenMW, that is the only Morrowind Remake I need.

Skywind (Morrowind recreated in Skyrim engine) is nearing completion. So that should scratch that itch.

Ehh morrowind remake wouldn’t have tamriel rebuilt our very own community engine replacement which is ptactically a remaster (openmw) is better

I don’t mind getting remasters. If it’s an older game that’s a pain in the ass to get running on modern hardware I’d buy a remaster if it means getting modern QoL (like ultrawide support). But what I’d really like are proper remakes, especially of games like New Vegas that were held back by hardware limitations and/or time crunch. There’s so much unrealized content in New Vegas that you could remake it and have it feel like a new game.

I’m less concerned about getting new games because those are coming in faster than I can play them.

I wouldn’t mind some base-building in the remasters. Modders did it already

Agreed fallout 3 and NV are fine the modding community has it. These game companies are just dry on new ideas and mechanics.

Every five to ten years someone makes something new and they all jump on it. Whether that’s some crafting/survival thing, some sort of base building or a Battle Royale mode. It’s quite pathetic honestly.

Keep beating every nickel out of those dead horses.

I hope they don’t try and cram the games through Unreal Engine like they did with Oblivion. The Oblivion Remaster looked terrible because of it, particularly with every NPC looking like a skincrawler

I fear that this will exactly the way they do it, after the huge success of Oblivion Remastered and now that they have the groundwork done to connect Unreal 5 frontend with the creation engine backend.

I will continue not giving Microsoft money. Fuck them.

I can’t wait to play them in six fucking years

What a waste of time. They are good games, revisit them anytime you want.

There is nothing that needs to be done.

There was a shit ton of cut content in new vegas though. It would be nice to have, but not if bethesda makes it.

Just don’t break mods, please.

Nothing is going to stop you from playing the originals with mods though.

Highly doubt any of the original mods would work with the remastered ones though, if they use a different engine. The Oblivion remaster used Unreal Engine 5 to handle all of the visuals, but kept Gamebryo as the base engine for all of the underlying mechanics. Virtually none of the existing mods for the original Oblivion worked with the remaster, but new ones could be created.

I would expect the same thing to happen with FO3 and FNV remasters.

we need someone working on that fred durst mod as soon as possible. new vegas is unplayable without it

It’s a shame to me because it divides the modding scene, and plenty old but stable mods will never be updated to work with the remaster. But it is what it is. I guess it will be nice for console players as F:NV is practically unplayably broken without mods.

Yeah that’s the downside. But also, it’s been almost 20 years since the original. Technology has changed a ton. It does suck that a lot of the old mods won’t be updated, but it brings in opportunity for new mods.

I remember checking and being incredibly disappointed by the lack of Oblivion mods a while after it released. It really informed me on not purchasing it. I would assume the same will be true for these l. They’ll technically support mods, but realistically the people who would be interested in making them aren’t interested in making them for the remake. I’d love to be mistaken though.

Those are gonna be remaster like the Oblivion recently released, of course the mods are not gonna work

They won’t replace the old versions. They’ll sell you new ones. Just stick to the old version.

stop fucking remastering trying to sell us the same games over and over again, and just make new ones already!

You could play starfield

I’ll remind people of this quote next time a games festival comes around, and people shrug at every trailer that isn’t a sequel to a beloved IP.

So I should probably buy the original Fallout 3 before they delist it on Steam?

This trend of companies slapping a new coat of paint on old games just to resell it is annoying. Having to rebuy the same game repeatedly is something I was hoping to get away from when I stopped buying consoles.

I wish they’d remaster them in the style of Fallout 2, or Wasteland 2 or 3.

That’d be amazing.

So we’ll see those in like 10 years then?

Is Bethesda doing the remaster of NV, or will it be Obsidian? Because maybe no thanks…

Will these effectively be “new games”? In other words, a separate purchase (on Steam, for instance) from the original.

Absolutely and they will be 70 USD for sure with a 100 USD edition.

I know fallout New Vegas was and still is a bit of a hot mess, but I have no confidence a remaster will be any better. I mean has anyone played a game from them that was not a hot mess?

I still can’t properly run Oblivion Remastered, and I have no doubt these remasters will be made in the same way, so I’ll just write these off as dead on arrival on my part.

So did that TES game get shit canned then?

Genuine question: why is it news that they’re repackaging a game and selling it at full price? I have the game, I play the game, and I enjoy it. Why would I buy it again?

Funny enough, some people haven’t played the games yet and might be interested in playing a modernized version!

I guess what I mean here is that they can just update the old one maybe and not try to make money on old property…

I’m being curmudgeony possibly lol just IMO the old game still stands because of the hardware its built for, and the story it has. Not the graphics

I guess what I mean here is that they can just update the old one

The old ones are still riddled with bugs. Trying to update them would exasperate the problems

And building a new one from scratch would magically have no bugs at all!

Yeah, obviously they’d still have bugs; everything does, but the two original games are so broken they don’t even launch without installing 20+ mods and it’s clear playing either that a near full to full rewrite is the way to go. They could do that and also just replace the original but that would mean taking away peoples access to an existing mod ecosystem, so releasing it separately makes the most sense

And of course they could give existing owners a free copy of the new version but if they’re redoing the whole game then its equivalent to a triple A game studio making and releasing a large game for free which would just remove any incentive to actually do the rewrite

you’re right on a surface level; no software is bug free.

The issue I’m trying to bring forth is that the existing software is already a legacy piece of software with existing issues. Trying to extend said piece of software to do even more will make the existing issues worse AND introduce new issues.

I’ve played NV and would be absolutely interested in playing a modernised version. Same goes for FO3 which I played through most of but lost my save from corruption and rage quit

More shiny on new hardware

These are old enough a remake could be good

Oblivion remake was meh because Skyrim exists.

Fallout 4/76 just wasnt as good. But it exists and the graphics and quality of life there can keep people from 3/NV just because of the comparison.

FO4 is 11 years old, they could possibly update NV to where FO4 is, and that would be amazing

Because they are remasters. If you are on PC, with graphics and performance mods, this is likely meaningless to you.

As someone who has only played these games on PS3, I really look forward to a good remake.

Unless of course they are Xbox exclusives, which is entirely possible.

Honestly the pc editions sorely needed an engine upgrade but modders shouldn’t bother until the last patch is out.

I’ll keep an eye on this but I’m not hopeful.

Exactly. At this point everyone’s expectations should be that this will either never get released or if it does it will be loaded with ads and microtransactions.

AAA is dead. We need to stop beating a dead horse and shift our attention to indie and small dev teams that respect their customers.

Fuck all this corporatized bullshit. The best of all these massive IPs is in the past. The sooner we accept that, the better. More money flowing to independent teams, the better because they’re like us, subject to the same shitty economy as us, living in the same housing options as us, and unable to afford yachts like us.

Support your class. Support indie and small dev teams. They’re making the best games anyway.

I am. The original versions were made on the Oblivion engine, and Oblivion Remastered was fucking fantastic.

Oblivion Remastered looks aweful, particularly the NPCs, most of which look like skincrawlers

Agree to disagree. I enjoyed it.
