If you have 1.5oz of vodka mixed with 3oz of water 94 6oz of water, it makes no difference. You’re still drinking 1.5oz of vodka.

Most spirit heavy cocktails are stirred.

Anything in the Negroni family will be stirred. Anything in the old fashioned family, martini family, etc. Basically any cocktail that is predominantly just spirits.

You shake when you have mixers like citrus, egg, or dairy.

By not voting you explicitly stated you’re fine with exactly what we have now.

Voting is a zero sum game. Someone is going to win whether you stay home or not, and that someone is going to massively affect your life and the lives of others.

And Harris would have been infinitely better than Trump for Palestinians.

It basically is already. There are so many food security programs in the US.

There’s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) which gives cash directly to low-income people to buy food. It’s basically food stamps.

There’s WIC which provides free essential foods for low-income women and their children.

There’s TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program), which provides free food boxes and prepared meals to low-income households and supplies food banks.

There’s CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program) which provides monthly free food boxes to low-income seniors 60+ through food banks.

There’s CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) which provides reimbursements for meals and snacks to eligible children and adults who are enrolled for care at participating childcare centers, day care homes, and adult day care centers.

There’s NSLP (National School Lunch Program) which funds free and reduced-price lunches for low-income students.

There’s SBP (School Breakfast Program) which funds school breakfasts for free or reduced-price for low-income students and subsidizes the cost for all students to keep prices lower.

There’s SFSP (Summer Food Service Program) which provides funding for sites to feed children and teens on school breaks that can’t get food at school. Between all of these programs, you have to try to starve in the US. Starvation and malnutrition in the US is largely isolated to the elderly with severe cognitive disabilities like Alzheimer’s and dementia, and those with severe eating disorders. Malnutrition from lack of food is almost non-existent in the US because, despite Republicans’ best efforts, we actually do have a robust safety net when it comes to food.

And this is on top of also providing more than half of global food aid.

Bandcamp is great for extremely underground artists, but that’s about all that is on there.

Because the UN has exactly one purpose: Serve as a forum for nations to communicate and prevent world war.

There have been multiple cases. And if you’re talking about the one with the little dog, they literally trespassed onto someone’s property, took the dog from their porch, then killed it before the owner could even find where the dog was taken.

Good thing is that this doesn’t really get to be an opinion. Well, I guess anything can be an opinion, but this one is objectively wrong if you differentiate them.

There have been several studies done on this, and brain scans show that physically reading with your eyes and listening to an audiobook trigger the exact same responses in the brain. They have the exact same effect, and your brain comprehends them the exact same.

Studies back in the 80s showed a direct correlation in listening comprehension and reading comprehension. They’re directly linked. In the 70s, studies showed that college students that listened to a short story could summarize it with equal accuracy to those that read it.

The science is pretty clear, physically reading a story and listening to it are the exact same and require the same amount of effort and attention to walk away with a good comprehension of the material.

It’s not about believing in the system.

It’s the only system we can have that the people will have any power. It’s either democracy, or being ruled over. And we will always trend towards the latter if the people abdicate the power they have.

There will NEVER be a time where we can just sit back and say “cool, things are good now, we don’t need to participate in politics anymore”. It will ALWAYS be either fighting to enforce our own power, or fighting to get that power back through revolution.

The power may lie with capital right now, but that’s because >1/3 of people (at least in the US) simply sit at home on their fat asses and don’t even try to participate in the system. And that’s for the biggest elections too. Where things really matter, at the state and local level, primaries where you get a say in who is even on the ballot, turnout is even worse.

Where I am, we have mail in voting, and a ballot is automatically sent to you, along with a booklet with everything on the ballot. The full text of what you’re voting on, a plain English explanation of what it will do, any tax changes that would happen from it, and arguments for and against. For primaries, if you’re not registered with a party you get both ballots and get to choose which one to vote in. It literally could not be any easier to vote. Our primaries this year? Thirty-fucking-six percent. 36%. And that was a “surge” in participation.

You can vote in your underwear at home, for weeks before the election date. And 64% of people still said fuck it, they don’t care enough. *That’s *entirely why the wealthy are able to control things. The people do not give a shit enough about it to even do their basic civic responsibility and exercise their vote, from their goddamn couches.

Well, voting for one. The US has abysmal voter turnout. More people stayed home and said they don’t give a shit in 2024 than either candidate got in votes.

The highest turnout we’ve had in over 100 years is 66%. A full 1 in 3 people that can vote put literally zero effort into voting.

That would be a decent start. Just actually doing anything to participate in the system.

And how much do you think the artist gets from the CD sale? Listen to it more than a handful of times, and it’s a lower payout than streaming.

Apple Music has the second highest payouts to artists, only behind Tidal which is much more expensive.

You really can’t have it both ways. You either want artists to get paid, in which case you’re paying more, or you want it for cheap and artists get paid less.

It’s literally the only possible system that could work. The alternative is just giving unrestricted power to politicians, and the people have no say at all.

Their power is ultimately derived from the voting public. That’s it. That is the power. You either have the ultimate power rest with the people, or the people have zero power.

It’s a cop out excuse to not put in the effort to be active and informed in the system. “It’s pointless anyway” is just defeatist bullshit.

Then the people need to put even more effort into exercising their power. It’s that simple.

Humans DO enjoy being busy. But not doing bullshit for companies.

This is just the classic “four boxes of liberty”, rephrased.

By voting. The US has set term lengths at every level. If the leaders are not fulfilling their job properly, they get fired.

For representatives it’s every two years.

That requires having an informed and active constituency though, which we do not have.
