RetroFedWhere would one find common ish 90s vhs streams/torrents?

I keep holding onto my vhs collection because in my ADHD mind , I won’t be able to find these random titles I have. I know they’re out there and were relatively popular in the 90s, but its hard to find like a “group” of this type of movie. Any ideas ? I’m not good at just searching by title. I need somethibg like “generic weird 90s vhs movies "

Archive.org has vhs rips of tons of stuff, however its up to you to discover.
as a mega fan of vhs rips, archive.org is your friend.
heck i found an (almost full) 100gb vhs rip of the woodstock 94 ppv on there.
and lastly donate to them because the internet archive is a gift; it’s amazing for near lost media

You could maybe digitize them yourself. I don’t know how that would be done but I’m sure it’s possible
Well yes, but it takes a huge amount of time and I am sure others have done it. I just want to try to find some collectiontion like this.
You just need a video capture card or dongle for your computer. Preferably one with an S-video input. If these are pre recorded tapes, you will also need a Macrovision remover connected between the VCR and capture card. If you want the quality to be as good as possible, you will need a timebase corrector. Those are hard to find and expensive though. The TBC will also remove the Macrovision.
I’ve got sad news, some of those 90’s movies are bad quality when you are used to watching 1080p and above.
What sort of movies? I’ve never really looked for too much ()’s stuff except for the very popular stuff.
Oh i care zero of quality. i regularly watch vhs on my crts over composite. But I realize someday this will be gone. So I want to find this se “vibe” of library
VHS degrades a lot over time! I can’t imagine watching VHS even if it were brand new on my old CRT with component video even. (Though I think S-Video was max for VHS/VCRs).
Anyway, obviously someone else did a really nice write up already, definitely the way to go. Private tracker sites might even offer more if you know where to look. Some do open registration occasionally too
Everyone says vhs and DVD degrade but I hace zero evidence of it happening to me, even vhs takes that were stored in an uninsulated storage shed for a 5 years.
Yeah, I love my CRT and usually watch my tapes on it. Vhs looks horrible on any flat screen TV otherwise.

Ah yeah I have been wanting to do that and also set up my dedicated seeding rig but I just dont know how to get involved in those private ones.

Can you give a few examples of some movies that would fit in this group? Do you just mean movies that were popular in the ‘90s, like Home Alone (1990), Wayne’s World (1992), Jurassic Park (1993), Forrest Gump (1994), Scream (1996), and The Matrix (1999)?

All of those do have multiple torrents available on the bay. I suspect you’ll have to search them up one by one and open each page in a new tab, then go through those tabs as you add them to your client.
It would be cool to have just one massive torrent that has all the movies you want; I can’t find anything like that though, I suspect it would be too big to seed the whole thing all the time and would quickly die. :(

Why would there be a single torrent that just has the exact random collection of movies as you, that have no apparent connection to each other?
*Edit: what you could do is check fmhy.net on the streaming section for a streaming site. Most of the ones I’ve used should have 90%+ of what you’re looking for.
Warning, not always SFW but I recommend this site: https://rarelust.com/ theres very rare movies on there. I also recommend using a tool like j-downloader for it.

Most movies that were “relatively popular in the 90s” are still available to download via torrent.
Alternatively pretty much everything that made even a few pennies for the studios was re-released on DVD & then bluray and can therefore be found in second hand stores and ebay inexpensively.
So, the actual solution to your problem is
Step 1 write up a list of your VHS movies, if you do it in an app (text editor/excel whatever) you can then copy paste for the next step.
Step 2 use a torrent index/search page such as ext.to to find each movie. Download them. If you’re in a country with aggressive laws use a vpn
Step 3 any that aren’t available (no seeds) check your local charity shops and ebay or equivalent in your country (LeBonCoin forexample)for DVDs, you may have to get an optical drive to attach to your PC.
Step 4 optional, I would suggest ripping to file any DVDs you buy so you have a permanent copy.
Edit yts.gg is pretty good for the old stuff (although theoretically anything on yts should be the same on ext it often isnt)
This should be step 1 IMHO. You can either get a vhs to dvd unit or they have some much cheaper vhs to digital that you then capture the stream from OBS.
The cost of getting an interface for recording the output of VHS, and the messing around you have to do to get it to work properly (macrovision and all that) far exceeds the cost of buying the DVDs from your local charity shop that you can’t find a torrent of (shouldnt be many), and the quality will be massively better from the DVDs than the crappy quality you will get from the VHS tapes (particularly if they are worn).
You digitise VHS when you have no other choice - there is only one copy of it. For the stuff mentioned as examples - the vast majority of which should be easily torrented - there is no reason to go digitising the vhs.
I wouldn’t even say theyre that specific. Its just random 90s movies, nothing crazy rare. But yeah youre right I need to make a list. Ripping them takes way too long and I don’t like them enough to re buy the DVD just to rip it to my nas anyway. Thank you for the comment !
You may find some tvdb list (or imdb, or others) add this to nuvio app and use some torrent/Usenet addon to find them.
