KernelCorruption

If this wasn’t enough, there’s even more among the silver members, such as OpenAI and NVidia.

Memes are supposed to be funny. What is it you think you did here?
The internet runs on Linux as the back end. These companies have a vested interest in the Linux kernel.
The people behind AI are like cult members (read up TESCREAL to know more), so they’re at least partial true believers of their own AI poison.
Okay? I didn’t jump in and defend any company here. I don’t follow what your point is. Sounds like babbling to me. Even if this tescreal is a bad actor, haven’t read up on it. Either way, I don’t see what that has to do with this image; on a memes page.
do you think these companies have only started donating since AI came onto the picture?
massive companies have donated to the linux foundation for years, well before the LLM nonsense hit the scene.
you should take a deep breath and calm down
Today you learned how foundations and donations work.
If youre concerned. go read the completely open linux kernel sourcecode let me know what nefarious things you find.
I got told the same thing constantly when Fidesz in my country was blatantly corrupt. Their actions and who paid them wasn’t enough, I was supposed to get a voice recording of those corrupt politicians admitting to corruption, otherwise I was just a conspiracy theorist.
is the linux kernel a country?
eww, google is a member? meta too?? gasp!!! microsoft?!?!?
lockheed martin???\????\????
highly recommend looking at https://www.linuxfoundation.org/about/members
sometimes it’s like “mercury is a member of the linux foundation??? the planet???\?”

What’s the problem? All those companies have a vested interest in not letting any of those other companies from poison-pilling the kernel. I hate corporations, but they’re also the ones with the money to invest in Linux instead of Microsoft Server subscriptions.
Am I missing something?
Linus torvalds actually wrote about this in his book just for fun. He does believe in companies contributing and that not everyone was on the same page
1) People are irrational. This is especially true to tech bros. 2) Techbros are usually true believers. 3) They need a sales pitch. What is better than putting AI slop code into a kernel trusted by billions of people?
Re: 3: because most of those companies probably rely on Linux for their operations, while a few like Microsoft and Samsung, do have some serious conflicts of interest.
Your point would stand if any of those companies had recently shown a shred of evidence that they’re capable of planning further into the future than next quarter. :(
I mean, it’s a bit like not letting a cat around babies because you saw it kill a rabbit once. Corporations are safe around these projects in a way they are not with their own proprietary code.
in the case of microsoft, it’s like not letting a cat around babies because you saw it scratch the baby and bite the baby and the cat said “i’m gonna eat that baby” and licks its lips and bites the baby again
I totally get what you’re saying. Microsoft engineered Embrace, Extend, Exterminate, where it would take open standards, extend them in a proprietary manner, then use their market dominance to kill the open standard. Bill Gates has definitely killed some babies.
But I’m saying it can’t kill the baby if its contributing directly to an open source project that everyone has equal access to.
Android is using the Linux kernel as its base.
Oh, I thought it originally used it as a base, then developed independently. So the Linux kernel updates find their way to android?
Not putting slop into the kernel so their servers still run without a hitch
They clearly don’t give a shit whether their servers stay up, though.
This has been a weird year where the cultists decided that don’t need to keep normies around to steer their servers farms.
Tech bros think the user is responsible for slop, not the AI model.
They’re just wrong lol
I hate AI but anyone who wants to
help fundcontribute resources to Linux kernel development is welcome to. As long as the code remains open, what kind of nefarious thing can they really do? I think this is irrational.Use it both as advertisement for their slop, and even ruin it at least temporarily. Sure, you can fork it due to its open source nature, but a nightmare scenario will require new volunteers (AI psychosis is kind of a plague within the industry), removing the affected code, and replace it with something that actually works. Even harder is if it just becomes spaghetti slop, the code operates mostly correctly, but hard to decipher and correct the moment it will have issues.
Youre doing the advertising for them by spamming them across lemmy.
this is membership, not just funding
Fixed it for you. The statement is pretty much the same.
Yes, capitalism is an attack on humanity that exploits everything - especially technology - for the sake of violent control…
But that’s been true since long before the “AI” grift. Just the latest iteration.
I don’t really see this as a problem. These companies don’t dictate the direction of the Linux kernel project, there are independent people like Torvalds and Kroah-Hartman at the helm.
The Blender project is also supported by major players like Nvidia, Intel and Netflix and they still work for the wishes of the community and not for those companies.
