The hydration breaks have BEEN a thing. They first started in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
I know I’m ignorant in the matter so if the question is obvious, I’m sorry but what other countries play the sport Americans know as football and where did it originate? Or do you mean like Aussie football was bastardized by the US?
American Gridiron Football has absolutely zero connection to Australian Rules Football.
Both are descended from Association Football and Rugby Football.
