The lower of those numbers is obviously fake. The other is “okay, I guess they’re doing better than I expected, but at least it’s plausible”

Adjusted operating income margin was -122% in the first quarter … That means that for every dollar of revenue the company generated, it lost $1.22

This is so confusing. So is it -122% or is it -22%? Cause -122% should mean that for each dollar gained they lose 2.22 because that’s how percentages work, no?

My assumption based on nothing except life experience is that all of that data gets pushed through differently coloured pipes into the same giant bucket with privacy concerns being “too hard” and “approved by legal”.

When someone offers you a seat on the rocket ship, you do not ask which seat. You just get on.

I’d first check if it’s Musk’s ship for the fear of my life

people are forbidden from using personal plans. Reasoning is cost apparently our monthly Claude bill has become astronomical for the org

How does using personal plans impact the company’s bill? If someone is so profoundly stupid as to spend their own money on a “tool” for their job then why stop them?

idk why but somehow the thing that tickles me most is that they submitted 1.2k files changed as a PR and didn’t even bother to tick the box

can pay an upfront cost to get in good shape, dress well, etc. You do it basically once

Wait what, how can I lock in a good shape with an upfront payment without having to go through this “exercise” bullshit all the time? What does he know that I don’t?! What’s the One Simple Trick, dammit??!!

large language models (LLMs)—but never chatbots

?? Distinction without a difference or am I missing something?

This looks worse than I expected and I am a certified shittalker, that’s crazy

Their cash flow suggests they were heavily leveraged on crypto

Wait what, GitLab was doing crypto? The fuck is going on in those people’s heads

>box labeled “agentic AI revolution automation realignment innovation acceleration opportunity”

There’s a whole good commencement speech hidden there where the “AI ReVoLuTiOn” is likened to the industrial revolution. How it is all about turbocharging the exploitation of workers and the planet; how its promise is to make a few immensely rich and give them the power to oppress everyone; and how we need educated, empathetic young people – and especially the liberal arts – to express themselves creatively and push against the system and mainstream narratives, because the only way workers win this “revolution” is the same as always: by song and poem and book and painting that fuels movements and protests.

But what the fuck do I know, I’m not the Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Tavistock Development Company, a real estate firm. I would never be invited to do a commencement speech.

But if you consider me to be more than usually intellectually productive for an average Ashkenazic genius in the modern generation

I don’t consider you more than usually intellectually productive for an average person, with no qualifiers, and I refuse to engage with whatever the fuck lies beneath that racist qualifier

Two things:

One, it’s a remarkable accomplishment to not manage to cook an IPO even now when SEC is functionally gutted by the Trump admin. They made crime legal! What are you doing?! Just lie in the statements and run to Barbados or something

Two, I am baffled by this

Harrison Rolfes from Pitchbook (…) thinks a good time for OpenAI to do an IPO is “mid-to-late 2027”. He wants a few quarters of “clean execution” and not floundering.

Like what? What are you talking about. The whole point of the IPO is to cash out ASAP before the music stops. Why are you talking about OpenAI like it’s a real business? Am I in Wonderland? The best time for OpenAI to make an IPO was yesterday, the second best is right fucking now, how would waiting a year be possibly good for them

No but you see that doesn’t make sense since the chatbox is conscious and very smart

Amazing bit, you read through the first section and it’s like, okay, I mean, maybe not really insightful but at least not dumb, and then they hit you with da

Around the same time, I was using an LLM to think through a social situation.

That’s the straw. I am moving to the woods [switching to vim]

which honestly doesn’t bode well for the rest of his biology expertise.

Isn’t Bryan Johnson a businessman? Does he even purport to have any biology expertise?

Ah, that’s probably better for my mental health I guess

Love the second example of immigration because not only does it completely miss the crux of the issue (free movement is a human right and must not be conditional) but also boils down to “actually this IS measurable and provable but Charlie doesn’t like the outcome so lalala whatabout Germany”

*Doodle*, the site where you make polls to schedule stuff with friends, that Doodle, wants me to PAY THEM to have a poll with more than 10 dates xDDDDD

I’m wheezing, I’m sorry, what xD DOODLE? A PRO PLAN for DOODLE? xDDD

which in polymarket apparently amounts to token holders in an external DAO called UMA voting in proportion to their holdings to resolve disputes,

Wait that’s even fucking dumber than I thought it was, good grief

Everything I’ve learnt about prediction casinos is against my will and all of it is somehow the dumbest shit imaginable. I went through crypto, NFTs, the metaverse, and 3 years of AI bullshit, and nothing reached this level of psychic damage before.

the original GMO crops

The original GMO crops would be like, broccoli existing and bananas not sucking ass. Monsanto are villains but they didn’t invent genetics or selection.

this man is allocating municipal water to a crabgrass cluster with no monetization strategy

This is poetry, AI could never

Huh, interesting, when the price was close to 100K I saw roughly eighty-six hundred headlines about it everywhere. But it lost almost half of that and it didn’t make the news? Huh. I wonder how that works.

To be included in the S&P 500, a company must be profitable

This is just discrimination. Is S&P scared of innovation? HFSP

I absolutely do get to call everyone who uses LLMs chuds, I actually do it all the time, it’s a great past time that keeps me healthy and moisturised.

No one is shaming him for not maintaining the project, we are, correctly and righteously, shaming him for using the Torment Nexus

So, do you consider active destructive actions to be a proper resistance strategy, @jlink?

Very last comment in this issue - because I’m too stupid to resist the urge.

It’s as much “active destruction” as telling someone to eff themselves.

I can’t actually believe someone would be so cool and put this into their repo, kudos

When our enemies are so fucking immoral I have to hand it to the HEAD OF THE CATHOLIC FUCKING CHURCH when the fuck did I enter the twilight zone

All that it tells me is that if you spent the same amount of resources on just fuzzing randomly picked OSS codebases you’d probably get better value for your buck.

If you spend $1.22 for every $1.00 gained, then your operating income is $-0.22. So your income is -22% of your revenue.

Calculating like you do would mean that a -100% operating income margin means you break even, and that’s kinda silly. What would a positive margin mean?
