I think people would be better served by a Senate run from her, in which she has a decent chance to win in New York, versus a POTUS run, for which from any honest evaluation of current voter inclinations in the States beyond NorthEast & West Coast, given the Electoral College system and who controls the “main stream” media these days, as well as the massive cash that would be pushed against her, she has no chance to win - at all. The only possible positive thing a Presidential run from her could do is push the DNC platform a tiny bit towards the more compassionate/empathetic side, but I seriously doubt she would even come close to winning the D’s nomination, and even then if she did, the R nominee would sadly end up winning the General election.

That particular pathway exists in some parts of the USA, such as NYC, but certainly does not work for many other parts. That said, I’d say nearly all voters are sick of status quo corporatism and “controlled opposition”.

fwiw - Windscribe (based in Canada) has been working well for me, and they are fully open source - https://windscribe.com/

everyone noting that T-mobile is evil, please note that here in the USA where corporate oligarchy is the defacto system, there are only 3 actual carriers (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon) with each of these having several other brands that are subsidiaries or affiliates that piggyback on their networks. And T-Mobile has a distinct advantage for degooglers in that they are GSMA, still offer physical sims, and do not have strict “whitelists” for compatible devices, like the other two carriers (whose business ethics are just as bad as T-Mobile’s.)

I like the messaging I see from Vivaldi’s ceo, and it looks like it has a nice feature set, but they still keep some parts of its code closed source, so I don’t choose it for myself.

I’ve posted this info on Lemmy before, but worth a repost now:

alternatives to Google branded Android For those new to the process, the best general resource for instructions on how to unlock your phone’s bootloader and flash alternate AOSP ROM’s or non-Android OS’s is https://xdaforums.com/ Please note that not all carriers and oem’s allow you to unlock the bootloader though, so choose your device carefully for this.

You will also most likely need a PC (desktop or laptop) with adb & fastboot on it. These are apps used in the terminal, but you only need to copy and paste a few commands into them to use it.

If you have a Google Pixel then the best option is Graphene - https://grapheneos.org/

For other devices you can use a “degoogled” Android ROM and get apps from the open source F-Droid app store - https://f-droid.org/ Some choices for this are: Lineage - https://lineageos.org/ crDroid - https://crdroid.net/ /e/os - https://e.foundation/e-os/ Iode - https://iode.tech/iodeos/

OR use a a true alternative mobile OS. Options for this are: Ubuntu Touch - https://www.ubuntu-touch.io/ Sailfish OS - https://sailfishos.org/ Mobian - https://mobian-project.org/ Postmarket OS - https://postmarketos.org/ Plasma Mobile - https://plasma-mobile.org/ Droidian - https://droidian.org/

You can also purchase devices with alternative OS’s already preinstalled from: Volla - https://volla.online/en/devices/ Jolla - https://jolla.com/ Fairphone - https://fairphone.com/ Murena - https://murena.com/ Furilabs - https://furilabs.com/ Brax - https://www.braxtech.net/

Ubuntu Touch uses deb and its own fully open source package format called click - none of the system or system apps is installed as snap. It has support for installing snap packages though, although there are still some bugs in using these.

in the case of Ubuntu Touch this simply is not true. Canonical stopped maintaining the code for it in 2017, and since then it has been overseen by the non-profit foundation UBports, which has a few core developers that depend on contributions from a volunteer community as well. Yes, it uses an Ubuntu base and some of the Ubuntu repositories (as do many other Linux distros), and it has an agreement with Canonical to be able to use the name and logos for Ubuntu for no charge, but is otherwise completely independent of Canonical. https://ubports.com/ (posting this from a Poco X3 NFC running Ubuntu Touch 24.04.2)

fwiw I keep a list of services and apps that allow artists to stream music, and sell downloads and merch, directly to their fans at https://totalsonic.net/direct.html This list includes artist run coops, FOSS, and Fediverse sites & apps, so I figure could be of interest to musicians on Lemmy.

Helium is a Chromium based browser that will still support ad blockers, whose devs (unlile the CEO of Brave) seem like good peeps - https://helium.computer/

Besides Librewolf, Waterfox is also a good Firefox/Gecko basd option - https://waterfox.com/

“HRW is zionist organization”, this is hilariously mistaken, HRW has been super critical of the Israeli gov, IDF and West Bank settlers for decades now: https://www.hrw.org/middle-east/north-africa/israel/palestine

LOTS of phones other than Pixels come with an unlockable bootloader, just check the list of supported phones for Lineage, Postmarket, Ubuntu Touch, crDroid, etc.and you’ll find a multitude of choices - many (most) of which are readily available in the USA as well. (source: me, who has flashed alternative AOSP ROM’s and Ubuntu Touch to around a dozen phones & tablets, none of which were Pixel’s)

What isn’t possible though is relocking the bootloader after flashing an alternative ROM or OS onto nearly all of these, meaning there is minimal security if the phone is stolen, or tampered with while unsupervised. And for those requiring physical security for their devices, that is a big deal.

Nothing vague about the plain fact that all governments abuse powers and commit violence.

More like “statists gonna state” ;)

But yeah, optimally every person’s human rights should be honored, regardless of what side of imaginary lines they were born in, but I’m not holding my breath to see that happen, or thinking that we just need to join in a round of “kumbaya” to get there.

…a bit more benevolent to some of their people.

If authoritarianism & the violence it brings (which there is a ton of) in the USA correctly upsets you, then authoritarianism everywhere else (for which there is a ton in China, as well as across most of the rest of the globe) should upset you as well. Trying to make excuses for it in one place or another for ones “team” is pathetic. Fuck all the “whataboutism” - it’s all counter productive.

I’m not missing any point at all, your post is in essential agreement with mine, lol.
