The counterargument is basically rule utilitarianism, right? That not only the direct outputs of your actions matter, but also the processes and social norms that you reinforce, and the total side effects of those.
(At least I think that’s what rule utilitarianism is.)

Do you at least use read/unreads to distinguish topics that still need to be attended to, or do you just look at every message once before letting them drift into your subconcious to mingle and ferment into anxiety soup?
That substack is hitting a lot of points, more than one human can reasonably address at once I think. Is this one of those LLM-fueled manic research spirals?
You seem to know your stuff about fertilizer and australian agriculture, but this sort of sounds like you are predicting & feel responsible for the potential starving of billions of people. Besides being extremely speculative, that is not a sustainable psychological motivator. I would recommend slowing down and taking a breath until you can focus on a narrower issue.
Also maybe lay off the chatbots for a bit (and replace Google with DuckDuckGo), but I reccommend that to everyone.

Erstens fehlt hier die Anmerkung, dass das offensichtlich durch die Gefahr des Modell-Kollaps (a.k.a. Habsburg-KI) motiviert ist. OpenAI/Google wollen primär markiert haben was kein KI-Slop ist, damit sie weiter Modelle mit mit unserer kreativen Leistung trainieren können wenn das Internet immer versloppter wird.
Zweitens ist diese Idee von Signatur-basierter Authentizität ziemlich dystopisch. Statt unserem Urteil zu vertrauen, verlassen wir uns auf ein Konglomerat diverser Hardware & Software-Giganten, die mit DRM-ähnlichen Methoden unserer gesamten medialen Kommunikation Leitplanken verpassen, die für uns nicht durchbrechbar sein sollen.
Mensch, diese Einsicht ist doch kein großer anarchistischer Wurf. Wer schreibt denn dieses weichgespülte Gesülze bei Heise?

Unfortunately Brave does exist, but you still shouldn’t use it. They run a crypto thing, they built AI into their browser, and have done shady stuff in the past.

You’re argument seems like Suresh’s to me, in that making working software is just laughably easy for a competent engineer.
This begs the question why noone is exploiting this market gap. But there’s a couple explanations…
It can be a coordination problem, in that there are just barely any competent software organisations with enough engineers. The problem can also lie in how software is bought, since customers seem completely unable to determine the competence of vendors. Perceptions on what kind of software is a safe, respectable choice may even be anti-helpful in this regard.
I don’t think you have to be hypercritical of that part. Sure, rose-colored glasses could play into it but he calls the bad stuff bad and doesn’t justify it via the good stuff.

They killed Google Keep btw. Not that I needed more reason not to tango with a corpo app again. All criticism here is based on failure to realize my utopian visions of spiritually pure notetaking.
The notes are just for me, but I was really hoping for a more conventional editor. No shade to emacs/vim enjoyers. (Heck, I use 90% NeoVim at work.)
The SSL stuff is finicky, but I got a template that is quite satisfying now.
I got a wildcard cert using acme.sh (works with both Let’s Encrypt and the API of my DNS registrar INWX), automated renewals scheduled with systemd. Internet facing proxy is Apache httpd, for every new service I just copy a conf template and update the URLs and ports. I can stand up a containerized service in 15min, provided it runs without issues.
It was on my shortlist before I settled on Flatnotes. Since I found out the AI stance of the dev there and encountered some technical issues… well I’m running a Silverbullet now.
It seemed a little too heavy on the customization front for me, but I guess I’ll figure it out.

Something about baby anarchists who get the spiritual lessons but stubbornly refuse to engage with the complexity of the world and try to naively derive practices straight from theory which end up laughably ineffective. In contrast, once it truly sinks in how fucked and complicated the world is and how powerless your faction is your political practice starts looking more “normal” ™️, but you harbor no ill will against the enthusiastic baby anarchists and sort of envy their lifestyle.
