Individual landlords would not be a priority for me, I would start by prohibiting LLCs from owning residential property, convert existing apartment complexes into residential co-ops/condos, and force existing corporate landlords to sell their properties to individual buyers at a cost determined by the state.

For individual landlords, I’d just prohibit them from acquiring new properties they don’t live in themselves, and make it illegal to transfer ownership of a rental property to anyone else unless they intend to live in it (eg via inheritance, sale, etc.).

Non-AI datacenters aren’t massive fuckoff Complexes that spew pollution (noise and atmospheric) into the surrounding area and triple your electric bill. It’s the massive hyperscale AI datacenters that are the problem.

How does running a local LLM that’s already been trained contribute to the environmental costs of training? It’s already trained whether I run it or not, and running it locally isn’t generating any revenue for the company that did the training (therefore it doesn’t encourage them to train more). This isn’t like a physical product where every time someone obtains a copy, more environmental damage has to be done manufacturing it, training is a one time cost.

I only shit on Big US AI companies because I want Chinese open source AI (and the few smaller US and European companies making open models like Poolside, Mistral, etc.) to make their business model of renting access to frontier AI impossible. I consider correctly aligned AGI in the hands of a for-profit US company to be more of an existential threat than a fully unaligned AGI. I think humanity would be better off extinct than forced to live under the values of Elon Musk or Sam Altman until the heat death of the universe.

It’s reality my friend (something 99% of users on this website seem to not be living in), if you could install literally anything on anything then you can wave goodbye to all the competition and just 1 king os that everyone flocks to and 1 king piece of hardware, would be an absolute disaster without competition and why would companies even attempt to compete in that world, you can’t win customers over with good software (locked to your hardware) nor good hardware (locked to your software), most development would cease worldwide as most go bankrupt
