It doesn’t matter. Unless they are keeping the apartment at an unreasonably high or low temp, then California typically recognizes a landlord’s right to require you to keep the windows closed when the AC is running.
This is not legal advice but in California, the landlord of a rooming house (which it sounds like you are in) has the right to make reasonable house rules and “keep the windows closed when the AC is on” is generally recognized as reasonable rule. Its unlikely a court would side with you on this.
Keeping the window open in a room (even with the door shut) impacts the temperature and humidity of the rest of the house. Rooms within a house are not air tight when the door is closed. In fact, the airflow in a house is designed to circulate and mix all the air from all the rooms so that the AC runs efficiently, even when the doors are closed.
My advise is to wear undershirts. Even the tank top ones will make a big difference in keeping your shirts clean.
Personally, I don’t get why the solution to many of the issues people experience with Apple devices is to buy another one.
I’m not really familiar with this. My wife uses a macbook. She’s had it for 6 years and I can’t recall any real issues with it.
It may be hard to believe, but some people actually buy apple products because they like them.
Storm drains, aqueducts, and swimming pools are typically made out of concrete because it has the right properties to deal with lots of water. Roads are typically paved with asphalt. Unlike concrete, asphalt is far more subject to damage from water.
One of the main purposes of crowned roads is to ensure that water flows off the asphalt quickly in thin sheets that don’t cause erosion. A heavy flow of water on asphalt causes too much erosion. Also, pooling or standing water seeps into asphalt and causes damage and structural problems. Especially in areas where the temperature gets low enough to freeze.
There are also other problems with V shaped roads, but avoiding water damage from pooling and erosion is the big one.
Slightly V shaped roads are used where cars don’t go, like in pedestrian shopping centers with outside walkways.
I use Windows Server because that’s what I know. Though I am curious to learn other OSes when I have more time. I don’t use docker so that’s really not a problem for now.
Wait I don’t have a reverse proxy because I don’t need one. I just installed the jellyfin for windows version and then you just connect to it.
I didn’t. I don’t need remote access. We don’t watch TV outside the house.
Right on that’s great to hear
Right now its a Thinkpad T480 with 64G ram and 1tb ssd. If it turns out we use Jellyfin enough I plan to get something more powerful for it.
its kinda crazy having your own personal netflix, right?
It truly is!
Popular conception of the “Turing Test” is pretty inaccurate. What Turing proposed was a way of determining if a computer is thinking or doing something equivalent to thinking.
His test was not for consciousness and it was not simply chatting with a computer to see if it could convince you that it is a person.
What Turing proposed was called the Imitation Game.
I’ve modernized it a little but the premise is the same. Think of a game show where there are 3 people all claiming to be a brain surgeon but only one of them really is. You get to ask all three people questions and if one can trick you into thinking they are the real brain surgeon when they are not, they win.
Turing basically said that if a computer could play this game as well as any of the humans pretending to the brain surgeon, it must be doing something equivalent to thinking.

I grew up in the era of where you could download a program, ie napster, limewire, icq and be on your way
That’s not a hacker that’s a media pirate. It’s the same today. Get a VPN, a torrent client and go to piratebay. You’re there.
So what is a Hacker? Simply someone who is deeply curious about how things work and has a high aptitude for visual reasoning, making them able to figure out how to get things to do stuff the designer never intended. Such a person cannot be stopped from exploring how things work. Its in their blood. As such they will deeply learn anything they study.

I’ll look into it, thanks!
