SOMA studio says its next game is not 'stressful or scary' in the traditional sense, but it'll still mess you up real good: 'The goal is to evoke this deep existential terror that stays long after you finish playing'

So excited! I’ve been playing horror games since I was 10, and SOMA is one of those few games that come that give a whole new perspective on the genre. I am yet to play Amnesia, but currently my top 3 horrors would be Silent Hill 2, Fatal Frame, and SOMA.
At the risk of sounding pretentious, Soma really is video games as art.
I agree. One can separate SOMA into the mechanics (can’t attack must always run or hide) and the dialogue and story. Both are masterfully done, and the story and dialogue left a deep impression on me for a long time after, the same way art and literature can affect oneself.
They hit a banger with Amnesia Dark Descent, and again with Soma but I am not feeling optimistic they have to use a game that is 10 years old( 2015 release) to promote.
Machine For Pigs was awful. The bunker was “meh”.
I would rather replay dark descent for a fourth time.
Machine For Pigs want wasn’t them. Their games have all been better than that, imho. And not just better than that, but enjoyable games. I personally consider SOMA to be a top ten game of all time in my books, so if it’s worse than SOMA there’s still lots of room for it to be a great game.
The trailer looks incredible. Their track record is more solid in my eyes than yours. I’m pretty excited.
Amnesia: Rebirth was OK, not as good as Soma, but IMO it is difficult to rival Soma.
Have not played The Bunker, although the dynamic gameplay does sound interesting.
Machine For Pigs wasn’t written by Fractional Games though. It was by The Chinese Room, which should put quite a few things in perspective

Yay! SOMA was fantastic, one of the best sci-fi stories I’ve ever played. It had weak gameplay moments here and there, but I still remember a lot of it.
After you what? What?!
Oh, that’s the game.
I don’t think I want that.
I absolutely want that
Then you may have my share, my friend! I find plenty of it in daily life and do not feel the need to supplement it.
