Petition by someone who cares about the show so much they decided to ai generate a slop petition cover with none of the characters from the show standing in a setting that isn’t from the show with comm badges that aren’t from the show and ships that aren’t from the show and a logo that isn’t from the show. If you want a third season, at least care about the show.
I wish this petition the best of luck. I would like them to succeed although I fear this effort will be in vain.
Wouldn’t it have made sense to choose an image from the actual show though?
In my opinion, it wasn’t the worst. I still have issues with the time period and the style over practicality approach more than anything. I didn’t really relate or care for the characters all that much.
I also wish that it focused more on Starfleet Academy and not so much on a guys mommy issues and a another galaxy ending threat.
The show really loses focus.
I can’t say I want to save it.
I found the show utterly baffling to watch and did not care for it one bit. I thought it was a surprising decision for the show to use an established setting and premise only to reinvent what that premise meant and change the setting entirely. That decision felt like it was a bit on the nose of an indicator that it was searching for a new audience. That was confusing to me as I get the impression there’s already an established audience eager for more Star Trek that isn’t… like what this was. BUT I’ve just officially aged out of the youth demographic so maybe my eyes and interest just isn’t valuable or desirable to networks anymore. C’est la guerre.
That all said, it’s a damn shame to hear there is no more Star Trek in production. And a bit surprising to see this one canceled so early. From what I saw, it was critically well-received and the fans of the Kurtzman-era stuff really seemed to like this one quite a bit.
Like Enterprise being the end of the Berman and Braga era of Trek, it seems like this might be marking the end of the Kurtzman-era of Star Trek. I’m really glad we got Lower Decks out of it and much of Strange New Worlds was fun to watch.
Perhaps it makes sense, but it feels a bit weird to see Star Trek live or die by the vision of but a few showrunners. I would have thought that there’d be more opportunities for varied hands to give it a go.
The show sucks. Let it go.
I for one quite enjoyed the show, and would love to see more of it.
Congratulations on finding a show that wasn’t for you. But maybe keep your opinion to yourself? It isn’t adding anything to the discussion.
Liking the show and disliking the show are both valid opinions worthy of discussion. There’s no need to shut down a topic just because you disagree with it.
Yeah please, we need more fodder for the RLM chaps so they can make something entertaining from it
Was this not the show everyone hated on?
Yup. If you want to understand why some nu trek shows are hated, I recommend Major Grin’s youtube channel. They do an amusing job of showing how inconsisent the new shows are in regards to respecting Gene Roddenberry’s utopian vision and the established canon.
Shows like Academy and Discovery would’ve been highly acclaimed if they were set in their own sci fi universes, but they chose to label it Star Trek then immediately threw away many of the qualities that people look for in Star Trek. Its kinda like if someone started writing new Sherlock Holmes novels where Holmes and Watson are too stupid to discover clues. You could still write stories about them solving crimes, but the stories will be different in a way that pisses off much of the estalished fanbase.
If you want to understand why some nu trek shows are hated, I recommend Major Grin’s youtube channel
Yeah, why bother watching the actual shows?
Seriously, all of this manufactured negativity could be done away with if people formed their own opinions instead of distributing pre-chewed hearsay.
Don’t like a show? Fine, to each their own.
Haven’t watched it? Don’t weigh in on it 🤷
I have watched all the trek. Major Grin does a really good job explaining the issues for those who don’t intend to watch the series. All he does is clip new and old trek together in amusing ways so you can see the things that bother fans.
I’m glad you liked it, I would have liked it too if it wasn’t labelled as Star Trek. But acting like no Star Trek fans watched the show before forming an opinion is extremely ignorant of the fandom. Many of us have spent decades enjoying Star Trek and will at least try to watch everything with that label. Those decades watching formed certain expectations that Academy did not fulfill.
The outrage certainly seems excessive at times, but that is because of the passion fans have for Rodenberry’s vision and because outrage is granted higher value by the algorithms determining our feeds. You may not want to believe it, but the hate Academy receives is more organic than manufactured. Of the dozens of fans spanning four generations I am priviledged to call friends and family, not a single one said Academy was good and the viewership overall seems to agree with that sentiment. I get a lot of crap from them because I think the Kurtzman stuff would’ve been great if he made it in its own universe and called it something else. It just doesn’t feel like Star Trek to many of us who have been following since the beginning.
Even before it aired, yes. A lot of people who actually watched it enjoyed it.
All 6 of them?
It’s a streaming service, they know exactly how many people did not watch. People think a petition will cause them to actively lose money?
We are not yet at the stage were money was eliminated somehow by a method still not explained 60 years later.
I see you struggle with forming an opinion not prefabricated for you by outrage peddlers on Youtube. Do jog on, I’ll save us both the trouble and block you.
I’m not a fan of the AI image that’s being used but I hope Starfleet Academy gets more seasons.
Everything is so on the nose with modern Star Trek. I really struggled to get into Discovery and didn’t even bother with Academy. Lower Decks is great. 🖖
Modern trek is just so-so. It’s fun to see where the story is going, but overall I don’t care to really rewatch any of it except for lower decks and some snw episodes.
30k is practically nothing, looks like they were right to cancel it.
Amazon took on another 3 seasons of The Expanse with about 130k, Netflix did an additional full 20 episode season of *Star Trek: Prodigy with 35k.
More than that, 32.5 k is a lot for one of these petitions in this amount of time. We don’t know what it will level off at.
The rate of signings is accelerating, with nearly 5k in the past 24 hours.

Am I the only one who thinks that a change.org petition would be way less effective than a TOS-style actual-paper-letter-writing campaign?
You could be right. But then, why can’t we have both?
I did both I’m also doing a hunger strike outside Paramount’s headquarters
I can’t remember which show it was, but fans wrote in letters on KFC bucket packaging because KFC was a major advertiser on the show.
So for Paramount Plus, guess we have to write in on… Trump letterhead?
Really a petition on a data collection site and an AI photo 🙄
Do you happen to know any alternatives to suggest?
Yeah. An actual image of the show. And a spreadsheet that is readable
Yes. Let NuTrek die.
I don’t know, Im not a fan of the Kurtzman-era Trek. I’d prefer it if they’d create a series that’s closer in tone to the earlier stuff.
While that may be your view, I hope you’re not going to work against the show or shows like it either.
Because very many people who between 40 and 55 did brigade against this show, gave it very negative reviews, and discouraged others from watching it without watching a full episode themselves. To the point that Psychology Today wrote a feature article The Trouble With Review Bombing.
Anyone over 35 is not in the key demographic. I dare say that’s most 90s Star Trek fans and most of us on this board.
But if we go out of our way to say that if it’s not made for us we’ll attack it relentlessly so that younger, target viewers won’t even try it, then it’s not going to serve anyone.
And yes, I have seen the entire season of SFA. I watched it with my partner and one of our GenZ kids. And I have signed the petition.
They just said they didn’t like it. Chill.
Ok, so we’re all wrong.
They cancelled the show because no one watched it, despite free episodes.
They put the show on a small niche streamer that doesn’t have an audience in the demographic that the show was made for.
The show did much better on Amazon channels than on Paramount+ — ranking 1 or 2 across its run. That tells you that the problem is that Paramount+ has narrowed its audience to Sheridanverse fans, not that the show isn’t good.
Every show Paramount+ has tried to attract the younger GenZ audience with has failed. And the streamer is failing — which is why Paramount has been bought and the streamer will be merged with HBO Max.
That’s my take as well. I’ve only seen one ep and I liked it. I just haven’t found the time to get access to it bc I won’t subscribe to bullshit services.
oh, I’m sure the infantile writing and shallow characters had nothing to do with it.
I highly doubt any of this. A good series can attract people to a platform.
Problem is, nothing NuTrek has comes even close to be something platform-attracting. That says more about the quality than the platform itself.
It’s not that you’re “all” wrong, it’s that you insist nobody else is right to like something you decided you didn’t without watching it.
There were people who followed the show and liked it. The number of signers to the petition vastly outnumber the downvotes to my posts sharing it here. You can deal with that gracefully, or continue as you started 🤷
It’s not Trek. The negative reviews are deserved.
No television show will make you feel as you did when you were a child, watching star trek for the first time.
I watched Star Trek the first time as an adult. I just personally find the writing much better and the characters much more believable in the earlier series.
That is your opinion.
I’m a huge fan of Kurtzman and all the New Trek that he created. I love them all. I often rewatch Discovery, Picard, even Academy. I need it. I need this. The entire world is gone to shit, and his shows, his creations, are the only thing that sooth me right now.
These comments, like the one you just made, are exactly why Academy has been cancelled, why Discovery was cut short, and so forth.
I truly dislike Star Wars. And yet, you’ll never see me bitching about it in their forums. I don’t think about it at all until something about it shows up, and even then, I just ignore it and move along, like any normal person would do.
If you don’t like it, if it’s not for you, then just don’t watch it, but shut the fuck up!!!! Let those who enjoy it, enjoy it.
Yes, “you’re entitled to your opinion etc.”, but do you absolutely have to ruin it for everyone else?!? You’re part of the problem here.
You, and all others with their continuous vile comments, bear part of the responsibility in the cancellation of a beloved, respected show.
Damn, I never said you shouldn’t like the show, or that it’s objectively bad. I just expressed my preference for the direction of future trek projects, in what I thought was a relevant thread.
You know it’s okay to enjoy something without making it your entire personality right? Leave your unfounded generalisations in the trash where they belong.
That is your opinion. Your argument that only your opinion may be spoken is invalid.
That is not what I wrote.
Yes it is. You told anyone who doesn’t like it to shut the fuck up.
Now let me get some🍿 and watch you dance about trying to argue that you didn’t say this.
It’s fine if people voice their opinions whether in agreement or disagreement.
From his perspective, you’re part of the problem because you’re advocating for resources to be spent on what you prefer over what he prefers.
So, what you’re telling me is, we should just take it like a good docile doggy and let all the new trek and its show runner be bullied into oblivion by trolls, incels and haters?
Because that’s exactly what you’re saying by taking their defence.
No, we’re telling you to maybe not jump down the throat of anyone who says “I dunno, I didn’t like it” like they are actively trying to kill your puppy. This post is taking up space in everyone’s feed, calling them to go sign. There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone saying “eh, nah.”
I’m saying you need to touch grass and let people voice their own opinion of a TV show.
This “shut up or agree with me” mentality is nuts.
So we’re supposed to watch bad TV for some kind of social conscience and responsibility? and if we don’t watch what we like, we are “The Problem”.
I’m getting an insight into modern Star Trek fans here.
I’ve wanted a star trek academy since the TNG Episode The First Duty.
My brother and I have discussed many different ideas for the show.
What we got was so so so disappointing to everything I wanted out of that environment.
Sorry it’s not a show I care to support. Sorry for your loss. Please let it die
Starfleet Academy fucking REEKS of being one of those instances where someone had a story concept that was too weak to stand on its own so they slapped a beloved existing IP over it and called it a day. I’m glad its getting canceled, that sort of thing should never be rewarded. It’s lazy and insulting to the fans of whatever IP they stole to try to prop up their mediocre story.
I’m with you, i couldn’t watch past 3rd episode, it was just too cringe inducing for me. I love Strange New Worlds though, i don’t want that atrocity that is Academy poison the Star Trek well.
Hey, remember that guy who wanted to hypersexualize Troi, 7 of 9, T’Pol, Sato etc? That guy sure as hell didn’t poison the well, huh?
Make more Prodigy instead and turn SFA into the CW school drama it was supposed to be
“Millions” of fans.
Viewership is so low for this series, I doubt it comes close to just one million.
A significant portion of the positive user reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are bots, very obviously bots (I can post examples if you don’t believe me). But even with all the botting it cannot get a marginally decent user score.
I could say “just leave it die”, but I’m confident enough there aren’t enough of you who actually like the series to make a difference.
So…uh… Good luck.
