Depends on the instance. Lemmy.org does allow you to do this, but it was defederated by most mainstream instances due to lack of spam control.

10minutemail.net works a treat, but you won’t be able to recover your account if you lose your credentials later on

YES! Simply host your own instance and you can not require an email from yourself.

Is it enough-create my own instance?

No but it is trivial to use email spoof/temporary email signup sites to get the verification email. You won’t need it again except for a password reset, which you’re SOL on if you do it that way.

Wrong, fully possible as far as ActivityPub is concerned. Instances may (and most do) set the requirement themselves though.

You do not need to provide one for Reddthat instance.

I don’t think you need an email for Beehaw

Yep, it depends on the instance. Not sure why other people are confidently answering “no.”

That was the main reason I joined lemmy.ml

Though now I carry connotations of the .ml instance so if I had to do it over again I’d choose another instance.

Issues with spam bots. But you can just open a new email with protonmail or tutamail or others

Yes, I did it twice.
