Ontario, Canada here: A bunch of subdivisions built here since the 80โ€™s have either no sidewalks, or sidewalks on one side only, but the roads are at least 3.5 car widths wideโ€ฆ.fuck cars.

Oh no, I tripped while taking my pet rock for a walk!!

Tell me a story about the US without telling me itโ€™s about the US.

This happens all over the UK too. In the area I live, itโ€™s not uncommon for people to park their entire car on the footpath.

Just this afternoon I saw a guy park across a dropped kerb, jump out of his car and walk off. So my partner had to roll their chair further down the road in order to cross.

Iโ€™m also in the UK.

Scratch the shit out of the car. Take a photo and license plate. Go to cops, say it was parkd across the footpath and you damaged it wirh your chair and feel bad about it.

Cops will fine it and since the damage is on record due to driver illegality insurance wonโ€™t cover repairs.

it just needs to be made illegal country wide amd enforced with fines. The council by council rule changes on curb parking is confusing. As for those who will complain that there isnโ€™t enough room for parking on both sides of the road, tough shit

I have seen this shit quite a lot in cities regardless of country but yeah thatโ€™s the US lol.

Sure happens in more places but afaik there arenโ€™t many other places where the police cares that little. Maybe in the city, but not in suburbs at least.

Carbrains are stupid everywhere.

Honestly I would say parking on the sidewalk is actually more common in Europe than in the US. But obviously depends on the local area as much as anything.

Exactly, Iโ€˜m German and it happens here a lot. My street is particularly bad because thereโ€™s not enough street parking - which would be a good thing if they actually punished people parking on the sidewalk.

Yeah I think this is the reason. There is so much parking and road space available in the US that thereโ€™s almost never any incentive to park on the sidewalk.

Iโ€™ve probably never been there, but I bet thereโ€™s enough, or even more then enough, street parking. But itโ€™s way too many cars.

There would be if every vehicle wasnโ€™t a small tank, and cities so poorly designed that everyone always drives everywhere.

For it to be the US, there wouldnโ€™t be a sidewalk

yeah also because we have much more sidewalk than in the US

I think itโ€™s also because the US is obsessed with parking and wide roads so thereโ€™s rarely an incentive to park on the sidewalk. Plenty of space elsewhere designated to that purpose.

โ€œHere in Houston, walking is considered an extreme sportโ€ - random youtuber

This could easily be in Australia too.

This should be open season for tow truck owners.

And screwdriver owners.

And key owners.

And those of us with full bladders.

I really appreciate living in my neighborhood which has great access to public transportation! But you know what really grinds my gears; oh there is no bus at the moment let park here real quick. And then guess what the bus comes and now the bus riders have to bare the nuisance. Or even the morons who park over night like the one pictured above, blocking the sidewalk path.

In My country, parking next to a bus stop is illegal and will get you towed.

In my country, the police donโ€™t do anything. Itโ€™s up to the community to put a rock through the windshield

In my country, I assume the police are just answering stupid calls and driving around and not taking cats off of tree branches either.

Transit drivers should be allowed to photograph the offender and send the plates to the DMV for a fine if the vehicle does not move in 30 seconds after the bus arrives. And the fine should be $100 for 1st offense, $250 next, $500 third.

Transit drivers should be allowed to bulldoze them out of the way

Iโ€™m a school bus driver. We are actually trained to push cars the fuck out of the way if they block us from completing a railroad track crossing. I actually ran into this situation my first day of driving training โ€“ I stopped before the tracks, put my emergency blinkers on and opened my door, and a car behind me passed me (which is illegal) and then got stuck on the tracks behind another car. My trainer was like โ€˜GO! HIT HIM!โ€ but I couldnโ€™t do it. He was really pissed at me.

500 is way too low. They are blocking critical infrastructure. Should be a 1% of pre-tax monthly income per minute imo

I live near a town that has a trolley that runs down the middle of the main (2-lane) street. Because the street has parking on both sides, cars canโ€™t get past the trolley in either direction, so you frequently get the hilarity of multiple cars trying to back out of its way to the nearest intersection. But at rush times the parking spots are all full and you get multiple idiots double-parking, which just jams up the entire town. Like, how fucking stupid do you have to be to park on shiny railroad tracks?

That awkward moment when you lock eyes and see the driver slowly back up out of the crossing.

I feel like I also see a lot of cars parked in taxi stands and loading zones, which leads me to think car owners donโ€™t think about anyone else, including other car drivers. Taxi stands are at their core congestion relief because the alternative is double parking and hunting for free kerb space. Its almost always big trucks too. I wonder why.

Usually loading zones have a timeframe. In that time, it is a loading zone. Outside of it itโ€™s regular parking. Thatโ€™s why you often see cars parked at loading zones. As long as they move the car before it becomes a loading zone again, theyโ€™re using it as intended.

Hmm, in my city the kerb is painted white and theres signs that say NO PARKING. Cops donโ€™t seem to care though so what do I know

A short story about entitlement, told in three pictures.

Iโ€™ve never experienced this in my country (Sweden) but that has no effect on my agreement with this community.

you got sidewalks? Fancy

I feel if I heel kick in front of me on what should be a public footpath then I cannot be blamed for any static vehicles that happen to be there

The Ministry of Silly Walks strikes again!

I got sudden loogie syndrome when I see this shit.

Literally happened to me this morning while I was walking and I thought about it but I was with my wife and I thought it would piss her off lol

Thatโ€™s a shame lol

My neighborhood has good parking but people still feel the need to back aalllll the way in to the spot, putting their trunk well over the sidewalk. Itโ€™s annoying because the road has plenty of space and we have speed bumps through out the neighborhood so the fear of their car being hit is so minimal.

I have the opposite. My parking lot is so small that if one set of your wheels arenโ€™t on the sidewalk, your car is sticking halfway out to the other side.

I canโ€™t fucking wait to move into the city so I can walk and use public transport and not be so reliant on this fucking thing

So you walk in the street, and then get yelled at.

What do yโ€™all do when someones stopped in cross walk waiting to turn? I sometimes just want to hop on the hood; though, usually I just drag my hand across the rear window or hood.

Richard Ashcroft walks over a car's bonnet in The Verve's music video for Bittersweet Symphony

When you accomplish a victory for humanity and donโ€™t even get the royalties.

For 20+ years. Fixed in 2019.

Just in time to get that half of a penny per play.

Knock on the car. Just keep knocking until they backup

Use a loud whistle, like an emergency whistle. When they see you, smile and wave.

Douchebags.

Douchebags, everywhere!

you forgot the signs that say anyone walking on HOA grass will either be shot or arrested.

They make cards you can stick on peopleโ€™s windshields, I am so tempted because I am driven by spite, but I also am tempered by ageโ€ฆ and realize there are cameras now and I would quickly get a reputation.

Bring your keys

Donโ€™t forget your keys! And hold them in your hand as you closely walk around these obstacles.

Thanks, exactly this. Dont be afraid to do property damage as a pedestrian.

I love this knife so much
