Reddit’s stock is falling because they’re eating themselves from the inside.

Apparrently you can’t even read articles without an account now. Way to make yourself even less relevant.

Facebook also requires login, maybe that’s why reddit thought they could do it too?
But I agree, I don’t think it’s a good recipe for reddit. People will just think “nothing to see here” and leave.

Both of these websites are stupid ASF because their CEOs and executives are dumb asses. By locking viewing behind an account all you are doing is killing your views and interactions. But this is what happens when MBAs, consultants and venture capital buys into a social site.

I have never used facebook because I actually read the terms of service first.

This guy kind of goes into why that is. It’s a great interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyt0pImMtiI

facebooks login can be bypassed with ublock origin.

I use updated µblock origin in Firefox, and I don’t see how I pass login with that?
But generally I only get there with links I didn’t know go there. And then I get some nag screen, and I close that shit again immediately. If it’s on facebook, it doesn’t exist to me.

Obviously I am looking forward to Trump’s downfall, but spez is really up there in terms of fuckers I really want to see fail as well.

You and many others, myself included

As the internet becomes flooded with synthetic content, people are craving real human perspective. We are the antidote to an automated web.

Says the guy whose site is flooded with bots.

is Reddit really flooded with bots? I only visit the cryptography subreddit which seems pretty human to me

yes, 50% are bots. the larger ones infested, and its usually always propaganda bots. you hear bots replying to bots, and ai bot posting. NEWS, and any news related sub, politics and any related sub are infested.

pics, all the intersting subs(interesting, intesrsingfuck, daminstering), natureislit, natureismetal is also infested with ai bot posts. all the AITA type subs is obvious, most of the ask subs. small niche subs are less affected, as are subs that require some kind of metric.(music, sports, celebrity discussion, movies, shows)

The general subs aka the ones you see on the front page, are full of them. Niche ones like cryptography won’t have much bot activity, but it’s definitely not zero either.

Yeah it depends on the sub but for the bigger ones it’s absolutely infested, if you go to one of the subs which takes removing bots transparently like the Tumblr ones you can get a sense of the scale.

All hail King Steven the Turd, Greediest of Pigboys

I came here to comment that he’s the greediest of pig boys, but I see that you’ve already called him pig boy (correctly I may add). So while I could skip calling him a pig boy since you already called him a pig boy, I think it’s still appropriate for me to also call him a pig boy given the magnitude of his pig boy tendencies.

Pig boy.

So… fuck spez?

Who could possibly have seen this coming???

/s

Or those at the top never really cared. Collect their paydays, cash out when necessary, and remain satisfied with the IPO and all their other profit-oriented decisions through the years.

Enshittification 101, or something like that.

Hopefully AI will be like 3D TV’s insofar as we as a culture look back in a few years with a collective “man, what a flop”

and then in another decade they get a small resurgence

Fuck u/spez!

Better repost their content, that is what hurts them not just saying fuck them

google, anthropoic, claude all the other AI companies already scraped the site.

Comments from other communities

In other words: Now that he’s no longer getting any money from Google, he’s suddenly upset that no one is visiting his site anymore, because most of his former visitors now find the answers to their questions directly on Google—the very company to which he sold all of his website’s content.

Well, he could have figured that out sooner. What a moron—but hey, he’s already pocketed the money for all the content he stole from his own users.

It’s a good thing Aaron Swartz doesn’t have to witness all this, especially since the greediest of all corporations are now raking in money with complete impunity for the very thing he was supposed to go to prison for years—even though he had no intention of enriching himself at all.

Tbf maybe people aren’t visiting reddit as much because they can’t open or view anything from the search engine without an account? And if you make an account you’re gonna get randomly banned sitewide a week later for existing wrong?

can’t open or view anything from the search engine without an account?

Is this currently being rolled out? I just tried with a generic search and “reddit” and it let me pull up a few threads.

Yeah, a number of people have been saying they can still get on but Reddit is definitely doing this. It appears to be getting rolled out in some kind of A/B distribution.

Gotcha. I sort of figured so, but didn’t know exactly how old the news was.

My phone can only open a reddit thread for less than a minute before it locks up and asks for an account.

Oh, lol, I didn’t linger long. I was just curious. Maybe what happens to me too.

I came here to sell exactly that thing. Sell your stuff to your competitor on the cheap and then wonder why nobody buys from you anymore.

Fuck Spez…

To be expected it would fall anyway.

To the highest of Fuckativity!

CEO, Steve Huffman, addresses investors:

As the internet becomes flooded with synthetic content, people are craving real human perspective. We are the antidote to an automated web. AI compresses the internet into summaries.

Reddit delivers the opposite: deep discussions, passionate debates, and lived experiences. People don’t want a summary of Reddit; they want Reddit.

Interesting take Steve. I guess they have to tell investors something other than reddit has allowed AI bot takeover on Subreddits have strict rules that mute most of its real users.

That quote makes it sound like he really understands why the users might not want him to destroy reddit.

Which also makes it sound like he is fully aware of his own conscious choice to destroy what could be a valuable resource for millions of people just so his sorry little ass can get slightly richer than he would have already been.

Its such an insult to say
“Reddit delivers the opposite: deep discussions, passionate debates,"
When they have continually pushed to minimize that format of reddit. The official app works the same way as all of Meta’s products, infinite scrolling content, their new website design severely restricts the comment section to just a few replies, instead requiring you click “see more” over and over if you want to continue reading a discussion. Now they are attempting to gatekeep their old.reddit format as well, restricting the ability to view discussions even further.

I have been a reddit user since the mid 2010’s and it is so frustrating to see what once was truly the best place on the internet to discover new things, fall so far

As they keep going down this path, slowly communities on lemmy will grow.

It took Reddit nearly 2 decades to become as large as it is today. Lemmy/Open source platforms in general have plenty of time be become just as big.

Or maybe I’m just coping at the permanent loss of something great.

I think at the time, nobody realised how valuable a written transcript of 14 years of verified human conversations would become. “It’s just internet comments.” But it grew into so many people with unique problems and solution and discussions. Sometimes I imagine if we could somehow read and search that many people’s conversations from 1000 years ago

Fuck you, Spaz

“Users question value of Spez*.” FTFY.

*Substitute the former r/jailbait mod for any other sociopath CxO who will do/say anything for a shareholder-blessed bonus.

Oh no!

Anyways…

Oh no… anyways…

He should shove firecrackers up his ass about it.

Looking forward to dancing on Reddit’s fucking grave.

Clown already sucked the AI cock and is paying the price. Too late to hope for “real human content”.

I question the value of reddit’s leaderships addiction to selling our content and sucking up to rich zionists.

Go burn in a dumpster fire Spez. Fascist bastard.

Spez can eat a rotting donkey cock covered in bat shit for all I care.

u/spez, get fucked.

Kinda like when you sell the house and then wonder if maybe you liked that house and perhaps should have bought another? Poor guy, I sure hope his entire project doesn’t fall on it’s face.

Reddit could have just continued on a place with good user generated content. Could’ve been profitable and popular. Instead they shitted it up. So fuck it. I hope their leadership suffers.

The very first quote seems to imply that there aren’t bots in reddit. XD
