Ughh no you don’t. There are protections in law for keeping that private but people don’t follow them. And there’s discussing your salary out of solidarity then there’s not discussing it because the gap is so wide and your coworkers are so unstable that you know they’re going to chimp the fuck out on you if they know

In the United States, discussing pay is a law protected right.

Co-workers don’t get pissed at you because you make more for the same job. They get pissed at the company because they are paying them less.

You SHOULD be sharing your salary with your co-workers if you want to ensure everyone has equal pay.

You would hope so but some of us are SO stupid man. I had an HR guy tell a bunch of people my salary and give me so much shit because he was mad at the rate someone hired me on for. It started a pile-on because there were a lot of people there who shared his sentiments

I’m sure there are cases where this is true, but certainly not globally applicable.

My salary is public record. My employer receives some government funding and there’s a state law about transparency for salaries for government funded positions.
