What steps do you need to take to ensure that a vacation is a good mental break? To get the most out of it?

I make sure to take one extra day after I get back home

And do basic chores before leaving, so the place isnt a mess

This. So much this. That extra day to get ready for life again is so great.

Clean your house before you leave. There’s nothing worse than coming home from vacation and having to do a bunch of chores

Not a lot of peopling. Not a lot of Internet access.

My most refreshing vacations are typically the backcountry backpacking trips I take with 2-5 people I know. No work phone access to emails nor “urgent” issues.

You guys are having vacations?

i havnt renewed my passport in ages, so i will have to restart the whole process of getting a new one, if i decide to vacation somewhere.

Prefer the cheap, small and near to the expensive, far away and spectacular. For example if you like hiking, hike a local river rather than the hype destination on the other side of the world. It doesn’t have to be that extreme, but you get the general idea I guess. You take away time stress, financial stress and travel stress and thus can enjoy your free time more.

I would recommend the opposite…

If you have the money, spend a bit more to get the most out of your vacation.

If you are already spending money on a trip, it is usually worth it to spend some more to get a more memorable trip.

You need to be smart about it though, not every meal needs to be in a Michelin star restaurant, nor does every trip need to be spectacular, but don’t cheap out on the stuff you really want to see. Bite the sour apple, and go for what you actually want to see.

It really depends for me. As much as I like adventure vacations full of outdoors and local culture and history and lots of walking and hiking, sometimes I’m fine to just swim up to the bar at a resort for a couple of days.

I stay home and rest.

Depends on the time of the year. For my vacation in July, I went to two museums I’ve been wanting to visit for ages and went to the waterpark I haven’t been at in over 10 years, but I also had days where I didn’t leave my home.

Im one of those people who are not good at vacations. I rather take a 3 day weekend every other week.

Most of my life (growing up with not much money) I’ve only taken really short breaks that wouod fit in a three day weekend, so this seems like a sound idea.

often times its just to catch up on things without losing some time to rest and relax.

If you’re traveling somewhere, get a hotel. Not an airbnb. Airbnbs will just make you do chores, and that’s no way to spend vacation.

they also charge a cleaning fee, or some bs fees tacked on too. it might be cheaper if are vacationing with a large group though.

much weeks are you planning, did you plan it under stress like from work and need a career chang, then no? is this with friends, family, relationship, alone?

are you touring or vacation alone without knowing much about the area?
