If they did, maybe their communities would be less toxic.

I don’t know about that. The Linux community has its own brand of toxic issues too. Try bringing up systemd or rust.

Systemd!? What did you just cram into PID 1, you bloated binary blob? You are nothing to me but just another sprawling dependency graph masquerading as an init system. I will chmod -x you out of existence with a precision the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the Unix was written, mark my words. You think you can get away with saying “one process should do everything” over the internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of grey neckbeards across the mailing lists and your commit history is being traced right now so you better prepare for the fork. The fork that wipes out the pathetic little monolith you call an init system. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

As a former MOBA enjoyer, IMO MOBA games inherently rage bait their players and make toxicity inevitable long term regardless of whose playing.

I’m seeing a bunch of toxicity in the milsim Arma. But based on a recent interaction, that has more to do with cross play with PlayStation users than anything else.

Even if they did work, no way I would ever use kernel level anticheat

This really isn’t a W. Even though I don’t play any of these games, Ive had friends who have had a real interest in switching to Linux, but didn’t because they couldn’t play LOL or Valorant.

It’s not really linux’s fault by any means, but it’s no W.

The joke is that those games suck so bad that even having the option to play them on any form of Linux would make said OS worse

And no FIFA or whatever the fuck it is called now

These games do some SCP-level containment for everyone sane in this hobby.

Deadlock and cs2 is sweaty enough for me

Dota 2 is working totaly fine so whats up about that 😐?

Easy, dota 2 isnt fun

I play COD on Linux, just older ones that have mod tools.

I do however wish I could play rust, tarkov(less so these days), HUNGER, and battlefield 1, but I can deal without those things I guess.

I wanted to play Fortnite again but after seeing Epic to approve the AI Slop in their shop, I deleted my account and never looked back.

why, otherwise you’d play it?

maybe if they did we could break 5% market share to 6!

Let us pray 🙏

The problem is that games like LoL or Valorant are kinda made so that you “need” to have a dedicated LoL PC. You’re not supposed to install these games on your main PC. Because these games are so highly competitive with real cash prizes involved, the devs ask for more control over your PC than typical games. It’s not a Windows vs Linux thing, it’s about control.
I’m not condoning this practice but it helps to understand why the situation is like this.

What percentage of players even do those competitive things though? Surely you could have an option to turn the orwellian anticheats off for regular players and only enabled for the sweaty wankers competitive players.

idk but there’s probably dozens of those. I don’t know what Rito are thinking and I kinda don’t want to. Intrusive anti cheat doesn’t work but those companies don’t care. Unfortunately, in the rat race between cheaters and anti cheat devs, actually developing a game solidly such that cheating is basically impossible has not been thought of yet. I also suspect “"""""micro"""""” transactions are a major driving factor here.

Ironic that this post is in itself being toxic to people that enjoy the titles mentioned.

I enjoy cod and lol and even Fortnite but cannot play them on Linux. I’m sad that I can’t enjoy the things that I enjoy. I still play league on my MacBook but it’s annoying having to switch systems for one game. I would love to be able to play * any * game of my choosing and not be harassed about it.

Try getting help for trivial Linux issues and you have a 50/50 chance of having a Linux elitist eat you alive for not already knowing what they know. RTFM and scoffing.

Linux has the same toxic ratio of users that the games this post is pointing out.

The reason those games aren’t on Linux is because of horrendous security overreach, and if they did work it would mean something, somewhere has been compromised in order to make that possible. I’m thankful they don’t work because the last thing I want is for game devs to have kernel-level access to my machine so they can dictate what I’m allowed to do on my computer.

I don’t think that’s what the user is asking for though. I read it as wishing that the games didn’t have those security requirements, so that they could play the games on Linux.

The joke in the meme isn’t “thank you to Linux maintainers for not compromising security”, its a joke about those games themselves.

Also their point about toxicity is valid, and I’ve found that it varies by distro. Without being specific, in case I just had a bad experience, some support communities were very hostile to users asking questions. If the new person didn’t phrase their question perfectly, using all the correct terminology, the support person refused to answer the question. It was a thread of “You said X, but X actually means Y, so I don’t understand your question. Did you mean Z”, when it is obvious from context what they meant.

Thanks for understanding 🙏

As an ex league addict I do think that league makes people worse and I hope Riot’s CEO will hang.
