Drift Masters - Round 5 (Riga, Latvia)

Qualifying for Riga is live! Link to live stream on Youtube.

I can’t sadly watch the whole qualifying for life reasons tonight, but will continue watching it in the morning before the TOP 32 begins.

Looking forward on seeing Yves Meyer’s GR Yaris. That’s a very good looking bun of a car. Again, rooting for mainly Mika Keski-Korpi, but in for the whole show. We’ll see. Will eventually comment on my thoughts. I wouldn’t say Riga is my favorite track, if I remember right the last year was quite a wreckfest and not in a good way.

Just got to watch the rest of the qualifying and here are some of my thoughts on it;

Lovely to see a glimple of Tor Arne Kvia, my ultimate favorite driver. I absolutely understand his reasoning for taking a break for this season, but still wishing I could see him drift anywhere.

There has been many crashes, technical issues and 0 points drives, as usual in Riga. It is a hard track, I still don’t know if I like it or not. It feels kinda seen already, maybe there should be more track rotation between seasons. Finland’s “new” track Ahvenisto, really woke the OG drivers up. I would like to see more of that.

And on that note, glad to see Jack Shanahan behave more like a human, even if it’s not his weekend. Feels like he and lil bro Conor have changed roles, Conor’s driving is feeling lazy and lifeless, emotionless.

Judging is back to the normal, Finland and Ireland were just some happy accidents. Konstantyn Shcurenko got a magical 56 point somewhere, and to be honest getting only 56 points should be 0 as there is no safe way to chase that. But then Kevin Pesur got a 0 on his second qualifying run doing the same mistakes everyone else was doing.. Many drivers missing zones and scoring high, some drivers making the same or less mistakes and getting 0 to 80 points. No logic, no consistency, no transparency. Classic DM GP! Glad I’m not watching this to see who’s the best, but to see the drivers.

Looking forward on TOP 32 later today, but likely can’t watch the TOP 16 or the final live as again, life reasons. Wishing all the best to Mika Keski-Korpi, Lauri Heinonen and Piotr Więcek.
