I love this song to death and the MV is just splendid

I remember when I first heard it and was like, “Ugh, it’s so generic, I wish Radiohead/alt rock was more innovative.”

To this day I’m not sure how I could have been a more clueless, overconfident idiot at the time. It’s a masterpiece that has never stopped getting better, on an album that is essentially perfect.

Is Radiohead supposed to be depressing?

I’t don’t think it’s supposed to be depressing but I wouldn’t consider it happy music.

To me, their music doesn’t feel like depression. It oozes anxiety.

Those in particular are kind of depressing: Black Star, Exit Music [for a film], Street Spirit (fade out), Motion Picture Soundtrack, How To Disappear Completely

You were kind if right though, in my opinion. I love this record, but it also signified the end of that era of alt rock music, in part because any attempt to beat this record would fail (here’s looking at you, Coldplay), but also because it was very much at the end of a movement that had already peaked. I found myself returning to my post punk roots around the time this came out, Radiohead themselves took a hard left to electronic jazz. One thing that was clear - the 90s were over. Was it innovative? No. But it was the absolute best of the British 90s alt rock albums.

The best love stories aren’t the ones that start with love at first sight in my opinion, so you were absolutely not a clueless overconfident idiot. I’m glad you allowed it to grow on you!

This band sounds a lot like The Smile.

Yeah, they clearly ripped off all the best guitar bits from the Smile for Paranoid Android
