What was the worst movie adaptation of a game you've seen?

Doom - other than the 5 minute FPS sequence, I don’t remember a single thing about that movie other than being bored out of my mind watching it

I remember getting excited about final fantasy the spirits within and then found it had pretty much nothing to do with final fantasy.

For me, maybe Uncharted.

Super Mario Bros is a 90’s dystopian cyberpunk masterpiece. If you’re complaining that is wasn’t “true” to the interlaced 8-bit game you’ve totally missed what makes that movie work. It’s a pretty fucking bizarre take, I’ll grant you that. The new movies were great, but they lack the weirdness and have been polished into boring lumps of nostalgia that are quickly forgotten. Nobody that watched the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie as a child forgot it.

Koopa is Bowser. That’s his name in the original Japanese and we used to call him that internationally as well. If you had been a fan when the movie came out you’d have mostly played games and watched cartoons where his name was Koopa.

And what do you mean it wasn’t endorsed by Nintendo? Nothing that’s in the movie is there without their explicit permission. The studio literally asked permission to make it dystopian cyberpunk and got the okay. They put their faith in the movie industry to turn out a good movie. That may have been a hilarious mistake but it was Nintendo’s mistake.

My answer is Battleship. It was a bad idea to even try.

I honestly wouldn’t know how to pick “the worst”. The good ones are rare and the bad ones are bad in many different ways.

Is there a good adaptation of a game?

I don’t know about the worst, but the best is the Deck of Cards movie.
