do you guys have some music recommendations

submitted by edited

EDIT: wow you rock!! woke up to a huge list lol thanks everyone I ll give everything a try

I need some more psy-trance, like old Infected Mushroom ("None of this is real”, “Albibeno”, “Red Filter!”, “Dracul”, “Astrix on Mushrooms”; not a big fan of their new stuff), because I keep listening to the same songs in a loop, as nothing comes close. I tried Astrix as they often do feat with IM, couple of good songs, but not as elaborate.

Some lesser-known, not necessarily quite IM, but still interesting and fun recommendations in no particular order:

  • The Floozies
  • Sofi Tukker
  • she
  • Conte
  • f(x)
  • Cazzette
  • Opiuo
  • Gramatik
  • Shawn Wasabi
  • Wave Racer
  • Savant
  • Haywyre

Edit: noticed you mentioned Astrix - I recommend He.art from them if you’ve not listened to the whole thing.

That older infected mushroom is a bit of a original sound, Hallucinogen is in the same class and very good, albums Twisted and The Lone Deranger. I made this playlist of what I feel are stand out goa/psy trance some years ago maybe you’ll find something you’ll like on it, if you don’t use youtube let me know and I can make a list if you’d like

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZE1l72XH4Y&list=PLbcs9JAxhWPIJUoHShh-TH-OZX1CmNR95

I started listening, and omg I swear I recognize some sounds from IM! I am 100% sure they reused some of the effects in their songs lol

Yeah this Hallucinogen is definitely very close to be a substitue for IM

Hehe that seemed to happen a lot back then, someone found a cool sound and then other producers copied them, I recognize a lot sounds from IM, Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Astral Projection in other productions, they were very influential on the scene at the time. Glad you like Hallucinogen, check out Simon Posford’s other projects too if you’re interested, like Younger Brother (Flock of Bleeps, Last Days of Gravity) with Benji Vaughn is kind of a cross between psy and progressive rock, Shpongle is kind of like dub meets world music meets psy. happy listening :)

I love Infected Mushroom, and like you, I haven’t been thrilled with their recent releases, and I really don’t have any similar suggestions, but…

Missio recently dropped a new album, and are worth getting to know if you don’t know them.

I also listen to a looooooot of Jack White. Just pick anything. Literally anything.

Check out Koxbox - Forever After. Bit different but my all-time favourite psytrance album easily.

Are you new to psytrance?

Been listening to infected mushroom for a decade, but only them

I’ve never been all in on psytrance but definitely into some of the older IM stuff.

Here are some artists/albums that I liked. They could be considered psytrance or have at least made songs in that direction, hope you enjoy.

Atmos - Headcleaner Koxbox - Dragon Tales Koxbox - Forever after Eat Static - Science of the Gods (more psytrancey), Crash and Burn (more eclectic) Juno Reactor - Beyond the infinite (more psytrancey), Shango (more eclectic) Shpongle - Tales of the inexpressible, Museum of Consciousness Texas F*ggott - Petoman’s Peflett Beatport 1 & 2 (compilations)

back when i had reliable income and was able to partake in some edibles, I thoroughly got hooked on this one youtube channel called "the Funkyverse". The guy remixes old sci-fi movie and science film audio into some chunky down-tempo trance, and it is just pure vibe indulgence.

Another good one is The Psychedelic Muse. These guys are more of a compendium channel and feature other artists in the space, so it’s a bit hit or miss I find. Still lots of good stuff to be had if you don’t mind a bit of digging in the channel archive.

Try out some good old Ace Ventura and Liquid Soul.

Try my friend’s DJ set, he’s an old-school fan

DJ EsotErik ~ Pandora’s Box 2024 by EsotErik https://on.soundcloud.com/JV6DxQ4tE49p0Gl2o4

Lately, I like Graviity, Mandragora, Dark Whisper, Highlight Tribe, 4i20, Fungus Funk, Oxidaksi

I don’t have many psy-trance recommendations, but I do have a few that are sorta related/similar that you may like:

-Griz

-LSDREAM

-Of the Trees

These are EDM producers, but they’ve got that kinda psychedelic sound.

Shpongle, Bruce Haack, Chase & status

I heard this song randomly in a podcast I listen (midnight burger). It’s a good song.

Dis ist die schiesse

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qE2UoqtPLo

Most of their other songs are in German tho.

This is some Brooklyn shit:

Then you’ve got standard Nordic techno similar to Venga boys:

When I’m in the mood for psytrance, I usually just tune in to one of the streaming Internet radio stations for a fix. There are many ways to do this, but I’m digging the new android app Deutsia Radio (no idea about the name), which is on F-Droid. I just did a search, and 42 results came up - although I know there are some duplicates, there’s enough there for a decent variety.

I don’t know if this is exactly what you’re looking for, but give the Confused bi-Product of a Misinformed Culture channel a perusal. He does a few different genres of mixes, including what I would consider psy-trance, although it might require a little digging through the archives to find your precise jam.

We have very different music tastes unfortunately. However, I will try to be some help.

Have you heard our lord and god… Rush?

Especially their older albums such as; 2112, Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres. They are solidly Progressive Rock and not Trance.

After Hemispheres comes “Moving Pictures” which is probably their seminal album as it marks a departure from the format of the previous albums. They become a bit more conventional in the structure of their albums after that period.

I have to admit, I am someone that gets stuck listening to the same songs over and over as well. My music server is well north of a terabyte in music and I find myself listening to the same thing over and over again. I wonder if I’m wearing a hole in the hard drives sometimes.

So I can empathize with you.

Perhaps, I’ll give the artists you mention a real listen and try to expand my horizons. Sometimes it just takes a single song that is pretty awesome to make that happen.

Rush is so, so good. Always a good recommendation imo.

If you like electronica/techno (I just listened to some Infected Mushroom - they’re good! Thanks for the roundabout tip, gonna give them more attention..)

I always suggest some Amon Tobin. I linked to Supermodified, one of his earlier, more accessible albums, because as he’s gotten older, he’s pushed the envelope with sound textures, time signatures, instrumentation and melodic pacing. It can be a challenge and is definitely an acquired taste and if you start with his really dissonant stuff, you can be turned off - which I would be saddened by. Dig in and for sure you’ll hear stuff that at first is really noisy and you may not like it - but stick with it ‘cos when it finally does click and you hear it.. Ooooh, you’re gonna have so much fun!

His stuff covers a wide range of electronic sub-genres and he releases under different names depending on the style.

Two Fingers - hard and (sometimes soft) fat beats. Look up the song Seesayer and turn it up LOUD!

Figueroa - acoustic + electronic w/vocals,

Stone Giants - electronic w/some vocals,

Only Child Tyrant - rock/electronica,

Cujo.. - which is older jazz-inspired smoother songs.

It’s all him in various flavors.

Dip in, the water’s nice.

in no particular order and also roughly from that period: cosmosis, x-dream, astralasia, man with no name, astral projection, doof, amanite fx, manmademan, tim schuldt, mfg, blue planet corporation, hara gobi, chi-a.d.. perhaps shaolin wooden men

Don’t forget Hallucinogen. 1200 mics, Shakta and Artax are also good (although Artax is much less established).

Don’t know much psy-trance but what about this: https://romaremusic.bandcamp.com/track/breathe

I’m a huge Infected Mushroom fan. It the entry point for me way back in the day into psy-trance. I’ll post what other psy-trance I listen to when I’m back at my computer tomorrow.

If you guys like trance-y electronica give the album Trance by Chis & Cosey a listen. It was incredibly far ahead of its time when released in 1982. Chris & Cosey were half of the highly influential industrial punk performance act, Throbbing Gristle. (My favorite album by the latter being 20 Jazz Funk Greats, which doesn’t have twenty tracks, nor is it even remotely jazz-funk related. Lol)

Desert Dwellers

I used to have a playlist called Psybient, loved it for sleep music - I didn’t make it, it was on Google Play Music and was lost when they changed to YouTube Music. Wish I could remember more of the artists on there.

Maybe youll like Woofax its not quite psytrance but it is very good sound design that may just hit the spot

I’m back with some old Infected Mushroom specific album recommendations.

1200 Micrograms - “The Time Machine” or “1200 Micrograms”

Lots of spoken word and rock instruments like some old IM

Astrix - “Red Means Distortion” or “Artcore”

Astrix is the other “popular” artist, you mentioned some of his stuff already.

His compilation album “Psy-Fi Book of Changes” features a bunch of different artists so there’s lots of new stuff you can try out. You can dive deeper on other artists there if you like any of it.

Hallucinogen - “Twisted”

Has slower and darker music a bit like IM

Shpongle - “Museums of Consciousness” or “Are You Shpongled?”

Same category as above

At the end of the day though, IM songs like Dracul and Albibeno are pretty unique. The whole Converting Vegetarians album has a (fantastic) sound that is unique to their band and isn’t replicated much elsewhere. In case you haven’t listened to Converting Vegetarians II, make sure to check that out.

I enjoy Astral Projection’s “Another World” but it’s pretty airy and upbeat compared to what you listen to. Astrix’s “He.art” I really enjoy but its newer and faster.

“Albibeno” is such an amazing song. It always makes me happy and hopefull for the future lol

Yes I love Converting vegetarians, i think there isn’t a song of IM that I didn’t listen to ..

The problem I have with Astrix and other is that i wouldnt call their tracks “songs” but mere “themes”. There isnt much of story building/climax, usually it’s just a linear progressio’, and once you heard the beginning, you almlost could guess the ending lol IM is very different in that regard, it’s pretty much unpredictable
