Picture of a young man in a comfy skaterboy outfit, reads: "In 2007 if you wore a long sleeve t-shirt under a regular t-shirt it meant that you liked music"

I think it’s because you need to stay warm while out skateboarding and going to shows, but a jacket would cover up your band Tshirt, so long sleeves go underneath.

I used to have a shirt where the the “long” sleeves where sown onto the short sleeves, giving the illusion I was wearing 2 shirts.

So you were one of the REALLY cool kids

I still have a couple of these

In the 90s, it meant you did heroin

In the late 90s you were a sk8er with at least one pair of jncos

Can confirm! xD Toss in Vans, a chain wallet, and bleached hair to complete the look.

Just the tips

Billabong shirt, oakley glasses, DC shoes

I can understand why, but then: why not simply wear a long sleeve shirt without the regular t-shirt on top?

Because it looked cool

And it was a lot easier to find cool T-shirts than it was to find cool long sleeve shirts

That makes sense, thank you!

Back in the day I somehow acquired a promo t shirt for the movie Eurotrip that had long sleeves sewn under short sleeves so it looked like you were wearing 2 layers but it was only 1 shirt. Can’t remember where that thing came from, as I’ve never seen the movie.

I have a couple of shirts that my parents got me in the 90s that have long sleeves sewn into a normal tee shirt. They thought I would like them because I did wear thermals and long sleeve tees under my short sleeve tees. I was gracious and would wear them occasionally when I was not going to see anyone I knew, but internally I did not like them because they defeated the purpose of the 2 layer system and made me look like a poser.

Good on you for wearing them without complaining.

Euro trip is hilarious. You should watch it

“Scotty Doesn’t Know” is such a banger of a song too. I couldn’t find it anywhere to download when the movie came but you could play it on the website for Eurotrip, so I recorded the shitty stream to put on my MP3 player.

Matt Damon nailed that

Funnily enough, I came upon Scotty Doesn’t Know years before I ever watched Eurotrip, love both!

Does it mean anything now? Still a super practical way to get different looks without a big wardrobe through the power of permutation. Also layering produces an air gap that makes this nearly as warm as a sweater and the outer layer rarely needs to be washed. Wore it because I liked music, kept it because I didn’t want to buy a lot of new clothes.

Yes, i have to say - I really like this look. I’ve layered like so omce or twice in my life but i don’t often get long sleeves. A nice winter style

Is that Josh Hartnett?

No, that’s Josh Hairnet

Only if it was a thermal. This is nonsense poserism.

Also the year was 1994.

Whatever happened to Josh Hartnett? Lucky Number Slevin was a great time and Hollywood Homicide was a fun throwback to campy buddy cop movies. Then he just disappeared.

He had a decent part in Oppenheimer, which was 3 years ago. Then he was in Trap 2 years ago, which had a lot of hype but was evidently bad (I haven’t seen it).

This is not as recent, but he was also in Penny Dreadful which was pretty good.

Thanks for the reminder. I think I’ll rewatch Penny Dreadful. Eva Greene and Timothy Dalton, what’s not to like?

The third season will always make me sad. I get that John Logan felt like the story had reached its natural conclusion but I disagree.

Dude… 30 days of night?? That was Epic!

Such a great movie!! A 90’s raunchy romcom with a heart.

Will always know what tryst means

Did we stop doing this?

We did. Lookcaround, everyone is naked now.

In seriousness, i haven’t seen people do this.

I see kids do this sometimes since the 90s / early 2000 are sorta back.

JNCO jeans, chains, polo, oversized clothes, etc.

That was my question

Liking music or the shirt thing?

Both I still wear long sleeve thermals under my band t shirts

I also remember a short while where sleeveless hoodie-vests was a thing so I was rocking three layers with shorter and shorter length sleeves like that and I was the coolest kid in my school (probably).

I still think sleeveless hoodies are a cute look (if you are a bara character)

Some people remember legit fall where you could layer anything.

They tend to be millenials.

Last time I fell I hurt my knee when inline skating because I forgot my protective layers, that fall was pretty legit :(

No, it meas that I have prominent man nipples without two layers of cloth.

And defeated an alien invasion with Bic drugs.

or that you were anemic and constantly cold

I prefer button shirts, and I think wearing two looks neat

in america i assume

That is still nice. I don’t know why we stop.

It does look good and stylish

This and flannel was me in the 90’s; and everyone else. I loved the thermal under a t-shirt look, let me stay both casual and warm!

No, that probably just means that you sell selfmade drugs to high school kids.

Look, lady, whatever you’re selling, I ain’t buying, yo.

Well, my name is Skyler White, yo.

My husband is Walter White, yo.

Uh, huh.

He told me everything.

Seriously?

That’s right.

And just so you know… My brother-in-law is a DEA agent. And I will not hesitate to call him. Not if I have to.

Understood?

This is your one and only warning. Do not sell marijuana to my husband.

Okay.

I mean it.Don’t call our house again. You stay away from him, or you’ll be one sorry individual. You got me?

I think so, yeah.

No more marijuana.

I can dig it.

You can dig it.Wonderful. Not that it’s any of my business, but you might wanna consider a different line of work.

Okay.

A Breaking Bad and The Faculty crossover would be interesting.

Woah that movie has a serious cast

“Long sleeved T-Shirt”?

It’s a tshirt but the sleeves go all the way to the wrists

No point in me changing the title now haha. I’m not trying to be twee it’s just my device is notorious for typos, it seems to not know what language it wants to autocorrect to so it just corrects to misspellings

That’s legit, I’ve been there

Everybody knew what you meant and it’s what we always called them because it’s made of lightweight t-shirt material. Also, this was how we dressed in the mid/late 90s. By the 2000s I was transitioning from jnco’s to diesel and prada. From the 2010s onward I’ve given progressively less of a shit and everything is just a range of old t-shirts that don’t have too many holes in them or something somebody gave me on my birthday….

I wasn’t allowed to do this. It was sacrilegious in my house because my mom and dad had secular rules which predicated over all else. I had to jump through hoop for narcissists, and then one died, and the other hurt me terribly. I forgive him, but I am hurt now by how he has seemingly thrown me away. I’m suicidal most days, but I was banned from c/mental_health or whatever because I’m too damaged to be of value to those mods. I am a n*gger apparently, according to those mods. That which I am is never good enough, so the mods ARE my parents, and so by the rules, I offer my mouth for them to piss in. Inferior I am.

Not good enough. Always not good enough to be accepted as I am. By the content of my being I am subhuman to some people. Now go ahead and bane me because I know it’s a mafia here on lemmy world as Ghislene Maxwell was mafia lord on Reddit. Do it. Do it.

Dude, go talk to someone, seriously. Don’t let the assholes win. You have value in the world, and you know that, that’s why you are fighting so hard against it. Don’t give up, find someone who will help you accept yourself. You can get there, you’re strong enough, you know this.

Never surrender.

The amount you presume about me is astounding to the point of being insulting, but instead it evokes sympathy in me for you as this must be how you apply solutions to your own life and therefore must suffer immeasurably at your own hand in your ignorance and general volatility in regards to melodramatic self-determination.

Many such cases.
