Meta’s new AI image generator is using your public Instagram photos

Meta’s Muse Image tool allows anyone to tag your public profile in a prompt and generate AI images using your photos. This can include your face, your likeness, and other people who appear in your photos, including children with no power of consent.

You don’t get asked first. And, according to Meta’s own policy(new window), you don’t get told after either: “You will not be notified about content created using AI features at Meta.”

Anyone still on Instagram after all these years is beyond help.

My whole country is addicted to Instagram. I got lucky I deleted it in 2018 because of some family bs

cries in TikTok addicted country (ROMANIA)

Good thing TikTok doesn’t work in mine without removing the SIM card (too much hassle for most ppl)

Instagram is extremely popular. At least here in my region.

Short form videos are extremely addictive. Once the algorithm knows what engages you, it is difficult to stop. And for people who used to use Facebook or who used to use the image sharing on Instagram, meta already knows what to serve them. If people only just try it once, maybe out of curiosity, maybe because someone shared a link, they will have a hard time stopping.

Normal algorithmic feeds are bad enough. But short form videos are on a whole different level.

LPT: You can get rid of the algorithm on youtube by turning your watch history off. You’ll still get your subscription feed but no recommendations feed. Just because addictive things exist doesn’t mean you have to become or stay an addict.

What the fuck ever your reasoning is..anyone active on meta platforms, twitter or Reddit is directly supporting oligarchy.

Fuck that. Fuck them. And Fuck you.

Just like how everyone taking street drugs is directly supporting the black market drug trade. And all of the Mafias involved in it.

Still? Again?

I was certain this was already happening. Isn’t that what they’ve been doing, just hoovering up everything?

EDIT: Oh, I should probably read more than the headline… yeah, this is worse.

How it feels to have deleted instagram before the AI shit took off

How long before we discover that this creep is a pedophile and/or a rapist?

I feel real good about never downloading instagram in the first place

The future’s so dumb I gotta wear shades

It was so hastily rolled out that their vibecoded slopware forgot language support

C'est si stupide

There’s needs to be a boycott movement on Meta!

There is. We just don’t use anything they make or operate.

Good luck convincing Europe to stop using WhatsApp.

I tried multiple times with my family and friends. They simply ignore me. There will be a day when I delete it for good, with no notice.

Just do it. Rip that bandaid off, you’ll feel better knowing you’re being spied on by one less party.

I have been tip toeing into home labbing hobby, it is an expensive hobby to have but it started with pihole and it really got bigger once the boycott the US movement started. Out of respect for the people who may visit my LAN I have kept the book of faces open on my LAN. I recently got it setup so that I could have multiple vLANs and wifi APs so today I figured out how to black list all meta things on my personal vlan while keeping it open for others who are not as big in the boycott as me.

Impressive stuff!

UPDATE July 10, 2026: Meta has removed Instagram’s AI feature, Muse Image(new window), after days of backlash [..]

Meta is just waiting for things to cool down, then will try again.

The best way to avoid this is to leave Meta/Fabebook/Instagram/Threads/..

Well, probably not my Instagram photos. I deleted that account when Zuck bought Instagram.
