PieFed batches the sending of votes between PieFed instances and sends a batch once per minute. So there can be a bit of a delay while a batch fills up.
Depending on how they have their cron jobs set, some PieFed instances only send a batch once every 5 minutes.
This dramatically lowers the amount of federation work an instance needs to do. If Lemmy adopted this method too we could all spend less on hosting.
That’s good to know. I was testing because the votes from this post including votes on comments never made it to my instance. I didn’t see any incoming “like” activities from piefed.social in the admin panel for a couple hours. After noticing I rebooted my server and I think that solved it, since all votes on this playground post came through.
