Those are some *big* trees

Encountered these big boys while exploring a local bike trail. The photo doesn’t do them justice.

Very cool! Where is that / what kind of trees are those?

I don’t know what kind of tree, but it’s Northern/Coastal California.

Gotcha, NorCal is real good at growing big trees. But stuff from all over the world has been planted there for the last 100+ years. Need someone that knows trees in here lol

I’m not an expert and I don’t think we have a “Marijuana enthusiasts” here,

(Edit to add, YES! https://sh.itjust.works/c/marijuanaenthusiasts@lemmy.world I don’t think I did that right but I’m subscribed now.)

but I’ve lived in California a long time and I think they’re old eucalyptus trees. Especially being planted on either side of the road like that. They aren’t native, obviously, but there’s enough similarities to the Australian climate that they do very well here and were often used to create a fast-growing windbreak for crops or roads. You can search “old eucalyptus” to see that peeling bark with smooth underlayer, strong vertical trunks and skinny drooping branches.

However , I could be completely wrong.

Was there an aromatic scent in the air, OP?

Definitely eucalyptus.

A perfume of a million plants getting it on. I can’t confirm whether eucalyptus was in there.

Where banana bike?

I’m sitting on it behind the camera. I failed at the internet :(

But here’s the bike on today’s journey:

To redeem myself, I went back:

I wish i lived near trees a quarter as big as these. All i have is sand and grass that hates anything with a pulse
