I was at a festival in Austria a few years ago when it was about this hot. Like, you stepped on the asphalt and left a footprint hot.

The only thing to drink was beer. If you needed something refreshing you had to drink radler (beer+lemonade, 3%).

I saw 3 people leave in an ambulance. Tons of sunstroke and dehydration. It was a fucking problem.

No water is definitely a major problem, but I’ve been to plenty of 95F festivals with plenty of free water and have seen dozens of people taken away in ambulances (and even life flight).

It’s expected to be 98-108F / 36-42C.

So yeah, water and weed is probably the better choice.

That said, people that attend Coachella every year are going to look at this and think “first time?”

French authorities do not find weed funny in the slightest.

True. But at a concert or festival anywhere in the western world, weed will find a way.

If you’re in France, just look for a chill guy named Zephyr or something. He’ll hook you up. If you’re in the Americas, a Shane will do.

Well I’ll be. For the first time in a while I’m proud of America for being progressive on this.

Indeed. It does appear that the tide of public attitudes is slowly beginning to turn on it, and Marseille is kinda leading the charge on it. From what I heard, a bunch of people in France smoke, but when I was there last month, we didn’t find anything, even in Paris.

Kinda everyone smokes in France, it’s just not legal so people are not open about it.

Only if you are not white enough. If you are white they don’t care at all.

Last time they tried stopping me for weed I was too dumb for them to arrest 🤣 (I’d traveled non-stop from a festival in Spain my brain was so fried i forgot I had hash (known as chocolate in France) in my pocket)

People that attend Untold, Neversea, and no doubt a whole host of other festivals around the world would look and think “first time?”

The point is very much that yes, for Paris, it is indeed the first time.

That’s kinda the point of climate change. Lots of places will be getting “first times” they’re not prepared for. “Herp derp but Death Valley is hot” is the Fox News formula for dismissing that.

Omg halal France.

So you have to be sober and hot at a rave? What’s the fucking point?

I understand the reasoning but I genuinely doubt this will hold and be applied. Sure, they can ban sales but there will be many bringing their own beverages.

Surely that doesn’t include wine. Can we still smoke?

This is exactly what I said when I heard. Surely wine is ok!! Right?!?!

I was at a festival during a heat wave in the northern US a few years ago. We’re from the south, so it was a normal summer day for us, but people were dropping all over the place.

It was bad enough that after every song, every artists made a “drink water” announcement.

I can understand why France is doing it. If you’re not familiar with high temps, you’re likely not going to drink enough water and alcohol just makes that worse.

Wtf

Safety first! And it’s only forbidden on public place, you can drink alcohol at home, in a restaurant, etc.

Just not in a public place because of the extreme heat… because you would put your health in danger + the public servants going to help you once you faint.

Better to have them available for real heatwave related issues instead of alcohol related issues
