I never let the truth ruin a good story

Question. If, an individual tells a story and uses embellishment and overexaggeration to add more of a dramatic effect and create more of an experience, but cannot recall such stories 100% properly due to complications in his/her memory, then could such person be considered a liar?

I never let the truth ruin a good story... But then again I'm a writer A.K.A professional liar 😜😂

Like Nick East, I'm inclined to let my interpretation build on my leaky memory. I'm still sort of torn, because some of my characters are still alive.

In one case, I used the names from the Hitchhiker's Guide, as they fit the personalities well ... especially the Vorlon poets.
