This is really neat but everything in this picture with a large root system looks stunted and half dead, they should probably make some adjustments to what is planted there the shrubs are doing great, the trees not so much

There are neighbours above, the apartment goes deeper into the tower than that 🤓☝️. You’re right in principle though, thst would be nice and i’m sure the trees surrounding the windw bay go a good way to making it more isolated and cozy there.
I used to love these, then i heard they’re very water inefficient. Unfortunatrly the more i learn about engineering the more i agree that they’re not worthwhile. Super pretty though
I would think that choosing plants specialized for semi-arid environments might help with that, but I know nothing about… well, any of this, beyond that it looks legit and cool.
Yeah i’ve always wondering who’s gonna take care of the tree. Most i saw is those vine that at least isn’t as water hungry and can have actual cooling effect by blocking sunlight, and people did pay the management for maintainance as it usually placed on public space, this one looks like just outside of someone’s balcony.
Trees also like being next to other trees, and if you think about it these trees would be more densely packed together on the ground, and their interactions create additional environmental benefits.
Best thing we can do for the environment with buildings is build tall and efficienctly, with capacity for extensions/long life and recyclability.
Mjøstårnet looks promising in this regard - even if the wood ends up not reusable, it doesn’t matter because it’s wood. It grows back.
Concrete is also reusable, ideally for making more concrete, but it’s complicated because people don’t like using recycled concrete for important things.
BagginsLooks great, however won’t the shrubs/trees roots systems break apart the building? Unless of course, they’re growing in plastic containers, which for me sort of defeats the point.
Shrubs/trees and their root require lots of soil and water, which is heavy. A building designed to support trees must support more weight, requires significantly more materials like concrete and steel.
Also, lots of plants and soil attract lots of insects, which is nice for biodiversity, less so for tenants. And these require maintenance. Adam Something did a video on the topic.
It only make sense to grow vertically if plants have shallow root, require little to no soil, ie grass or salad. Or better, plant things in the ground, put solar panels on buildings.
I deliberately didn’t even mention the insects. It needs full on maintenance, it looks great at first but not all the residents will be up for that. I wonder what it’ll look like after a dozen years.

Probably a mixture of the type of shrubs/trees being carefully chosen for shallow root systems, and the stated purpose (other than beauty) being to help absorb CO2 in the city.
Anyone know if they plant different stuff depending on the level? It doesn’t look like it but I would think you would.

Greening initiatives take years, or even decades, to reform cities. Every step (that isn’t counterproductive, at least) is a good step!

No. This concept was first used in Italy over 40 years ago. They choose the appropriate trees.
Some trees only grow a few feet tall. I remember when I was a kid, my mother planted a few such small trees when we moved into a house with a yard.

After considerable struggle, since listing all addresses in fucking China is not high on the list of Anglophone internet service priorities, and as if to fucking emphasize this, the entire fucking Google Map of Huanggang being incredibly off-center, and most locations not having any fucking address listed, I spent far too fucking much of my time to cross-reference sources, searching in fucking Chinese (which I do not speak), and locate the exact position of the complex through Baidu’s map service as Juran Home Vertical Forest City Complex, No. 88 Shengli Street, Huangzhou District, Huanggang City, Hubei Province.
