Explanation: In the 19th century AD, the increased prominence and prestige of universities in Europe led to correspondingly increased activity in various fields of academia, especially the humanities. We’re focusing, naturally, on history here.
Unfortunately, this also coincided with the immensely prejudiced and ideological Victorian era, and historical fact was often twisted beyond recognition to suit ideological and nationalist prejudices, creating myths and misconceptions that endure to this day. Think of a bad take on history that doesn’t involve ancient aliens, and it probably has roots in the Victorian era.

Fun fact: In the 19th century, Britain was ruled by the German House of Hanover, even including a personal union between the British throne and the Kingdom of Hannover. You can even blame the Germans for Victorian-era Britain!
