Ah okay, yeah, no, that’s not at all what I intended to mean. It was more that they are going through hardship constantly due to their transness, and therefore might get bored with games that don’t offer a challenge, because being trans made them tough as shit, and resilient. 😅 If they weren’t already, of course.
I think saying drawn to hardship has an unintended implication that they choose to be trans. And therefore choose hardship. That’s who they are, not what they choose. That’s why it bristled for me.
If the game is good, people will play it. For many people the game itself is more important rather than who created it. Even for people that dont support LGBTQ+ community.
Allegory is one kind of evidence, arguably one of the most obvious sorts of evidence. It’s not the only kind though. I have never played the Hollow Knight games so I didn’t know those facts you just mentioned. Still, from what I’ve seen of the games in screenshots, I get a vibe.
Perhaps part of it to me is that the protagonist is non human, barely even resembling anything humanoid? There’s also a gloominess, a loneliness to it.
Not saying these vibes are in any way a perfect diagnostic. Heck, I wouldn’t have predicted the announcement beforehand. But in hindsight it feels right.
Granted I haven’t played more than a couple hours of the first game, but all I’m seeing is a genderless skeleton looking character who doesn’t have much personality whatsoever lol. Maybe I’m not seeing it, or need to play longer through the story. 😅
The first hollow knight game features a male protagonist who is honestly a little bumbly looking. There’s a secondary protagonist who is a girl and looks like she absolutely has all of her shit together, if a bit conceited. She looks like the protag, but after the Hero’s journey is done
The second game, you play as her and she absolutely fucks.
That’s what I was seeing as a trans allegory in these games
Only dummies think the game made them trans. The game basically gives off vibes that they’re trans, even before they came out, to the point where people aren’t surprised that they came out as trans.
Yeah it’s exactly that. And “Fork found in kitchen” is like saying “Is the pope catholic” or sarcastically “I’ll alert the media” about stuff that really isn’t surprising.
Oh no that part is just a joke, like OP said, it’s been a whole joke with celeste being a big hit in the trans community, then the dev coming out as trans, this exact meme format was being used all the time, so I guess HK/SS were also big hits in the trans community and history repeats?
Huh, interesting. I wonder if that’s actually true that trans people are more drawn to hardship than other demographics, or if that’s just a social reinforcement feedback loop somehow.
In the original post, from which I cross posted, they mentioned that apparently a lot of trans people resonate with hard games, where you need to learn and practice a lot to achieve your goal. And Celeste was also a big hit in the trans community and its developer also came out as trans afterwards.
I think you mean r/trees, which was about marijuana, its production and consumption. The other one was then cheekily called something like r/marijuana or so and was all about identifying trees.
I remember on the red site, there were two communities that basically had one another’s names. It was funny because one was NSFW (in name only) and the other wasn’t (except for its name) or something like that. It may have started as an April Fool’s joke, but it went on well beyond that.
A theory that could be made is that someone got confused in the production of the game and the error got past QA.
But now that you mention it, considering the second Skull Tyrant we fight comes “out of the blue”, and even more so with Team Cherry having a history of leaving only hints for parts of their stories, it does sound like Hornet commited an “oopsie daisy”. 😬
Thanks for bringing this up! I didn’t play steelsoul mode in either game (too rage inducing to me), so I never heard about that compression thing.
I would say maybe compression and what happened to the Pale King are connected, but I would still say the Pale King wasn’t compressed for the simple fact that he didn’t look steel-like enough. I think he did indeed choose to do it. Maybe compression needs the steel body to contain the higher beings essence, like a pressured gas bottle.
A point towards your theory is the way the Pale King uses steel himself to trap void in his guards.
Another counterpoint would be the White Lady, as I don’t think she wouldn’t have realized anything strange with her husband.
Now I’m definitely more interested in the new DLC. Or maybe city of steel will be shown in a later DLC.
The City of Steel seems very important, and considering that steel assassins are yet to be introduced, we should see a DLC regarding this sooner or later.
I usually do the same as you, but sometimes I try to follow the “regular” progression a bit more, so I didn’t rush to get the pale nails before.
I had to get it because I was loosing my mind. And imagine the rage when after reaching the top I discovered that in one of my grip-less attempts I failed at literally the last jump. I try to delay buying tools because they are expensive, and I don’t really like most of them.
I only have the green Prince’s heart, but I want all four. Though I have literally just beaten Seth.
Oh, You didn’t had the Pale Nails? I think I forgot to mention that by the time I went to defeat Khann, I had already found or bought almost all the tools and upgrades. I’m terrible at gaming, and usually, what I can’t achieve through skill, I make up for by finding upgrades to make things easier for myself.
You didn’t have Ascendant’s Grip? I’m surprised you didn’t lose your mind during the Mr. Mushroom mission. I almost did, and I already had Ascendant’s Grip at that point.
Reaper’s Crest is one of my favorite crests. it’s so versatile, and I think I also defeated the Pintress with it.
Anyway, I’m glad you managed to defeat Khann. Is that the last heart you needed, or do you have more left?
I finally fucking did it! What made the difference was: using pale nails, a lot, mostly for flying shrimps; ascendant’s grip for when they remove the floor and you have to shoot at flying enemies; reaper’s crest; dumping tacks where the alitas spawns in the third gauntlet. I didn’t kill Khann on the very first attempt right after the gauntlet, but I did it on the second.
Sidenote, I decided to get pale nails for this fight so I went up the cradle, but once there I told myself “now that we are here let’s just finish the Mr Mushroom thing” only to discover the Path of Regular Discomfort. Where I got stuck once again, until I swallowed my pride and went back to buy the ascendant’s grip. Which turned out to be a life saver for Khann.
Side sidenote: reaper’s crest is amazing against the pinstress. It’s like, made specifically for that fight.
Side side sidenote: I imagine you are not that interested in my quest. But I just wanted to write this somewhere.
I’ll try, but I’m not really comfortable with the short range of wanderer. Back on the first game I always used mark of pride, unless I really needed more spell charms for a boss
I’d recommend ditching the Longclaw (it doesn’t make that much of a difference anyway) and focusing on staying alive. I seem to recall using the Plasmid, the injector Band, the memory cristal and the Fractured Mask at some point to proceed (it’s been months since I did that fight, sorry my fuzzy memory).
My logic was: you have to stay alive and keep your health maxed out for as long as possible, use silk only to cure and beat the enemies either quickly or without getting too much damage.
I’m using wanderer+longclaw, but I also tried reaper, other crests I’m not really good at them, I only forced myself to use architect for the unravelled. I’m not sure which is better. With reaper I rarely get to land more than one hit, but I do get to land a pogo more often on the flying bastards
This is the only time you’ll face something like this, so don’t worry (more, that is)
About the actual boss fight
On the other hand, Khann himself is really easy. I don’t know if that’s good or bad for you, but for me—having tried to beat the gauntlets like 30 times—being able to defeat him on the first try felt like a gift
Have you tried using other crests? In my experience, certain crests make some fights ridiculously easy, while others can make them nearly impossible. The Wanderer’s Crest worked for me with this task, it let me take out enemies quickly and avoid getting overwhelmed.
Really? I have just started the second fight, but I found the first one on the easier side. Sure the attack patterns are confusing at first, you just keep running into the tornadoes, but once you get it he stops being a real threat. I do despise those bombs though, they are so hard to avoid
He stops throwing bombs from the trapdoor (only does it while in the air) and starts lighting fireworks from the floor. The problem is that bombs are much harder to avoid than the fireworks
After a certain event, the high score ceiling will be raised and you’ll have to do these again :) that is if you want to beat that new high score as well
‘Fuck, marry, kill,’ a twisted ‘what if’ game in which one is given a list of three people and must choose one to fuck, just once and never get to see again, one to marry, so you are together long term, and one to kill, so you never have the chance to be with them, etc.
So, who do you want to Dodge, Juggle, and Bounce? *eyebrow wiggling intensifies*
There’s a mini game, where you need to beat some NPC’s high score to get an item. I was complaining that my 30 score doesn’t count as beating the high score
it’s not necessary to strike up to juggle them. you can do a regular strike sideways. i didn’t notice it from the beginning, but it did help me a lot completing the challenge.
i also didn’t jump too high and mostly ran sideways sweeping the ground when there are a lot of fleas, and especially when they happened to land far away from each other.
but of course, try to “group them” and send same direction as best as you can.
Actually was more confused that Hornet is in the mix at all; didn’t even think to make a joke about 69ing lol
I just meant how do you juggle, dodge and bounce off yourself? Unless I am totally misunderstanding what this chart is showing (I assumed it was the total times you did those actions against the enemy shown by the number). I haven’t played Silksong yet so maybe I am just way off base 😅
not sure if longclaw affects it tho, it seems that all tools are off when you do challenges.
also, realising one thing helped me a lot in this challenge. i may say it if you like (but maybe you already know)
Nono! I meant for juggling! I did bounce with wanderer. Tho I only started using wanderer yesterday when I realised I can just use longclaw to extend its puny range. Before that my main was reaper, I used it for everything except broodmother and unravelled
Me? I’m not jumpy, I just didn’t understand what was going on. And I was trying to understand. 🙂
Ah okay, yeah, no, that’s not at all what I intended to mean. It was more that they are going through hardship constantly due to their transness, and therefore might get bored with games that don’t offer a challenge, because being trans made them tough as shit, and resilient. 😅 If they weren’t already, of course.
But it’s just wild speculation.
I think saying drawn to hardship has an unintended implication that they choose to be trans. And therefore choose hardship. That’s who they are, not what they choose. That’s why it bristled for me.
why are people so jumpy about transfem issues
If the game is good, people will play it. For many people the game itself is more important rather than who created it. Even for people that dont support LGBTQ+ community.

That’s what I was seeing as a trans allegory in these games
I don’t know how to explain it. Art gives off vibes that reflect the artist’s inner feelings. That’s kind of a major part of art: an emotional outlet.
The game gives off vibes that who are trans?
Only dummies think the game made them trans. The game basically gives off vibes that they’re trans, even before they came out, to the point where people aren’t surprised that they came out as trans.
Sure, not necessarily negative, hardship was a poor choice of word. I meant more like a challenge.
Okay good. I thought there was some MAGA logic at play here. 😌
It’s sarcasm. One of the Hollow Knight devs came out as trans relatively recently.
It may not be drawn to hardship, so much as ability to overcome difficult circumstances. Or persistence. Or patience. Or adaptability. Or resilience.
Let’s not jump to negative conclusions.
Oh okay lol, thanks
How can a game make someone trans? Especially those games?
So, it’s “obvious” somehow that this person who made those games… is trans? Based on what? 😅
Yeah, like “water is wet, fork found in kitchen, sky is blue”
No idea about the fork to be honest.
In the original post, from which I cross posted, they mentioned that apparently a lot of trans people resonate with hard games, where you need to learn and practice a lot to achieve your goal. And Celeste was also a big hit in the trans community and its developer also came out as trans afterwards.
I’m so lost on all this lol. Are people saying the game made them trans? And what’s with the “fork in kitchen” bit? Is it saying like “duh”?
As always, learning about news through memes feels weird, but all the best for her! =D
I’m too lazy to check myself, what does Gaster say?
SHAW!
shaw
I think they should release it after the Sea of Sorrow, but maybe it will be included in some special edition idk
That map is tempting me…
Might could also be r/animetiddies (or something similar) That was actually about world news.
I think you mean r/trees, which was about marijuana, its production and consumption. The other one was then cheekily called something like r/marijuana or so and was all about identifying trees.
It might be.
I remember on the red site, there were two communities that basically had one another’s names. It was funny because one was NSFW (in name only) and the other wasn’t (except for its name) or something like that. It may have started as an April Fool’s joke, but it went on well beyond that.
commented it above! thank you!
Just commented it, thank you for pointing that out!
Here’s the link! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrV8cct5RK4&list=PLL8yTvzHfhrLTyRCPGicPPNKkb_KX0uCD
Where’s the link? I’m just seeing the lizsong image
I dont see a link anywhere? Maybe it got eaten while sending it to the server. Try sending the link in a comment.
It’s not gonna be E anymore once they add Sherma and Hornet bath scene in Sea of Sorrow
Wait, we already had that?
That box art would be awful if it were real. Also silksong is rated E lol.
Nice silkpost lmao
Silkpost? In my lemmy?
The QR codes navigate to youtube links.

Alas, ’tis a silkpost.
looks regular size to me
no banana in the pic though
Huge if real. Pls be real. 🙂
It’s my headcanon that the Skull Tyrant attacking Bone Bottom is a result of the scent of the skull Hornet brings back!
Wow, thanks for the additional guilt!
But yeah, that is a nice find. Puts the whole thing into more context.
bedrock edition marketplace is kind of a scam when you can get all this stuff for free on java
Thanks for bringing this up! I didn’t play steelsoul mode in either game (too rage inducing to me), so I never heard about that compression thing.

yeah and that’s the northern line via Charing Cross, but why is it in Hollow Knight?
It’s the London Tube map 😂
As one of the modern audience, this is great news! Now we just need battle pass and lootboxes
This is what happened when you have too much fun in development
Hey, at least it works (probably). I live in America, where everyone and their 14 years child and 85 yrs old Grandma is driving a Car.
What is this ?! 😭
Isn’t that just an excerpt of the actual rl London underground?
So you haven’t beaten Karmelita yet? Great! Her battle is one of my favorites in the whole game, it’s so much fun!
I usually do the same as you, but sometimes I try to follow the “regular” progression a bit more, so I didn’t rush to get the pale nails before.

I’m hating this sooo much. I made almost zero progress.

Add Warding Bell and you have my Witch Crest build.
My fellow skongers, WE’RE SO BACK!
https://www.teamcherry.com.au/blog/silksong-patch-4-r8h7h
In other words: Sea of Sorrow tomorrow!
I’m looking forward to the new traditional Chinese translation. I’m glad TC care about five of us who actually use it!
But it explicitly says that that’s fixed! So magma bell does protect against it.
I used an online save editor to unlock it.
There’s a room in the marrow where it’s really hard to get out with witch pogo, one near the top
My biggest issue was trying to keep track of everything on screen through all the blinding flashing lights
Like, using a mod to get it from the start, or kust grabbing it ASAP?
Which attack was it? I don’t remember him swapping any attacks
I did a full witch playthrough, some bosses feel more like Hollow Knight: you only heal during staggers
yes, but also the most joy
So dramatic, I love it
Accurate theatre nerd.
Aside from Karmelita and the Act 3 boss, Trobbio was the boss that gave me the most trouble. Both forms.
Someone already told me, but that’s a later problem for later me. Also, I’m not sure what that drops, but it does not drop pale oil
After a certain event, the high score ceiling will be raised and you’ll have to do these again :) that is if you want to beat that new high score as well
gg guys. gg hornet.
‘Fuck, marry, kill,’ a twisted ‘what if’ game in which one is given a list of three people and must choose one to fuck, just once and never get to see again, one to marry, so you are together long term, and one to kill, so you never have the chance to be with them, etc.

Ahh. Yeah, I hate that too. It’s pretty common for games to say you lost if you tied.
There’s a mini game, where you need to beat some NPC’s high score to get an item. I was complaining that my 30 score doesn’t count as beating the high score
Ah, I already knew that. But I think they go further when you strike sideways. Anyway, in the meantime I got 37, so I’m fine, for now
it’s not necessary to strike up to juggle them. you can do a regular strike sideways. i didn’t notice it from the beginning, but it did help me a lot completing the challenge. i also didn’t jump too high and mostly ran sideways sweeping the ground when there are a lot of fleas, and especially when they happened to land far away from each other. but of course, try to “group them” and send same direction as best as you can.
I don’t know what that is

The moment I posted I already knew someone would just look at the 69 ignoring what I was talking about. I’m just surprised it took this long
TROBBIOOO!
I used the claw mirrors + multibinder a lot for DOUBBLIO TROUBBLIO (but with Hunter or Wanderer)
What is this, some sort of even more twisted version of FMK?
How do you do any of those things… to yourself? Isn’t Hornet the character you play as? 🤨
It does not affect it, but I checked after posting that, but I didn’t know.
Sure, shoot, I’m gonna use all the help I get for this. Except getting shaman crest, I’m dead set on doing his before progressing further in act 3.
P.s. also, I’m back to reaper, I think it lingers just a bit longer than beast and it’s basically just as large. I’m not sure tho
not sure if longclaw affects it tho, it seems that all tools are off when you do challenges. also, realising one thing helped me a lot in this challenge. i may say it if you like (but maybe you already know)
Nono! I meant for juggling! I did bounce with wanderer. Tho I only started using wanderer yesterday when I realised I can just use longclaw to extend its puny range. Before that my main was reaper, I used it for everything except broodmother and unravelled
