Like, I don’t think it’s AI, just photoshopped. I have an embroidery decorative frame very similar to this one, and the back of the frame shows through the front a tad, just like in this image. (at a guess, it’s the Anchor 11.5” Faux Wood Oval Embroidery Hoop & Frame. I have the 7.5” in hand and the proportions on this image are wrong for that–the wood of the frame looks too narrow.)
I’m also unconvinced it’s real. I’d like to see the back. Also, some of the stitches look like they might curve. Real individual stitches don’t curve. It might be that there are many smaller stitches giving the illusion of a curve, but I can’t tell at this resolution.
Tbf I’d prefer that to stroking someone when I tried to shove them. Stroking them just isn’t in the realm of possible outcomes when an experienced combatant tries to shove someone.
Them both being men isn’t what makes this funny. The player being forced to seduce someone they don’t find attractive is what’s funny. This has been a trope forever. There’s, like, three different layers of the exact same conflict/joke in Shrek, none of which include same-sex couples (unless you think Shrek and Donkey are more than just roommates).
The real offense here is a DM stripping agency from their player for a laugh. The player is clearly not being a good sport about it, and this type of behavior can feel like bullying and absolutely wreck a playgroup.
I just read it like; “Goddamn it, I rolled a fighter, not a bard, this time for a reason. What was the point of that side quest where I got this sword if I’m just going to rearrange his guts with a sword I was born with?”
If I want to do horny shit, I’ll roll up a horny character.
Yeah, I see this reading as well, but I stand by my point. The baddie could have been the Kraken, a Beholder, a Lich. Still, the comical situation relies on the fact that it’s an orc stud.
You‘re not pointing out facts, you’re explaining your own interpretation. I (and the others in this thread) interpreted the parents‘ negative reaction as coming from their son bringing home the „Scourge of the North“ rather than disappointment in his sexuality. The mother says „Smile so he doesn’t kill us“ because he’s evil, not because he’s gay.
Or you know, just defaultism. If the player is hetero, by default his character is hetero. He did not seem offended by the route it took, just embarassed (and it’s not said per se if because of gay, because of success at failing or both).
Hell, looking at the full-color-spectrum cast I am hella more prone to believing it’s mix of defaultism and simple laughing at friend stumbling xD
I can see that reading, but I think the joke would work the same with him bringing home any threatening partner. If it was an orc lady, the dialogue could be the same.
I mean, yeah, I think there’s some low grade homophobia in here but not malice.
To me, the parents’ reaction confirms the homophobic bias, especially the father’s reaction. They could just have said something comical like “finally, he’s bringing somebody home”, “finally, he’s out of the closet”, “I’m so happy he’s happy” etc, and embrace the comically gay situation, allowing the people laughing about the gay situation to laugh, and the gay audience to witness a “happy ending” that doesn’t degrade the comical nature of it all. The big bad enemy could also have been a Beholder or a Lich, etc. But no. It’s an orc stud, because the fact that it’s an orc stud is the point.
I found it funny because the human was trying to battle the Orc and win, and ended up romancing him into peace instead. In the star trek universe this could be Riker and a Klingon female and it’s still funny to me. Didn’t catch the homophobic vibe others got. For me it’s the “ew Orcs are ugly” angle that’s a bit cringe
Huh? Ill be honest, the sex of either character never crossed my mind. The comic doesnt even draw attention to it. I found it funny because his goal, and overall campaign mission, was to kill the orc but fumbled their way into marrying them instead. Its classic situational humor that comes out of role playing games.
Hmm I’m mixed on this, you could see it as homophobia, but just the hero falling in love with the BBEG in itself could cause the exact same comic, no? In which case making either a woman could have misogynistic implications instead.
Without knowing the author I like to think they’re making the “hero seduces BBEG” joke, just more inclusive because it’s gay now.
Genuinely funny, but also genuinely homophobic [confused gay laugh]
More seriously, though: If it’s only funny because it features two persons of the same sex, it’s homophobic.
Imagine the shtick with a man and a woman : it’s not as fun or not even fun? Yeah, that’s because the whole point is the fact that it’s happening between two males. Homophobia IS the point, and it’s not because the comic features diverse people that it’s not making an homophobic point.
Whoever the author is, they’re forgiven because it was funny, but I encourage them to question their work.
Check the o s, how they are all a little thicker than most of the letters, even though it’s a simple letter. I hope I am wrong and they just have an unusual style and a very consistent hand.
This is why critical fails are usually so much better than critical successes. Lean into that shit hard!
“P…please stop caressing me. I’m trying to kill you!”
“Oh, you don’t like that? You don’t like mommy’s strong hands rubbing your orc back? You don’t want this little barbarian dwarf melting all the stress of battle away from you? Go ahead and tell me you don’t really want it, bitch!”
And that’s how we got an orc pet to follow the party around!
Or you could have a magical pouch that transports items to a storage closet in another dimension, and a magical servitor to set up and take down a luxury tent with all the comforts and essentials.
Unless you have the magic pouch and servitor though, yeah a pack animal is your best bet other than roughing it…
If everyone was born predestined for a certain career path, with the latent talents and interests that will lead them to and help them excel in that path, my destined profession was “adventurer/questing”
I feel pretty jipped [ripped off? shorted?] that it’s not a real profession…
If I have a character of mine die, my favorite bit is to have my new character have some relation to the old character. Now, most would use this to replace a character with a stand-in. “What do you know, my character had a brother of the same stats and class!”
But I find that too boring. I prefer to go with an entirely new class when a character dies or otherwise must be replaced. My favorite bit is to have the new character be out for revenge against the old one. This has in the past resulted in a new character fighting a pitched battle with my old one.
it was a biergarten? and we had a lot of fun. did the individual character setups and universe intro (i may have done a lot too much for my second campaign) beforehand and then we did the “tell everyone about your characters and let’s figure out how they know each other” at the bar. then we played throw the bag of sand at the hole in the CORN HOLE IT’S CALLED CORN HOLE. i don’t go out to bars much.
I once did a session 0 for a campaign at my favorite bar. Best campaign I ever ran.
I’ve run two campaigns. It was the second I ran. The first was in middle school. This one was in my 30s. I learned a titch in between. But still. It was a lot of fun.
If I got isekaid I’d go Connecticut Yankee on their ass. Yes, I am insufferable. No, I will not be changing. Your fantasy world will be industrialized. I am the evil wizard. I cast steam engine.
I played a one-shot where I was just a normal guy. No tragic backstory, good relationship with my parents, just an average townsperson. The only reason he went on the quest was to get a little combat experience so he could join the city guard.
Half the party died, he almost got killed by a horrible monster, and he noped right the fuck out back to town to be a florist.
Presumably you’d be sleeping in a tent, so the “sleeping outside in the rain for days” bit isn’t too bad.
How many days have you spent living in a tent in the rain? because personally I think it’s kind of fun for one night, assuming it’s not a complete downpour, and then the novelty wears off and everything is damp and muddy. And that’s assuming you have a reasonably good tent that you’ve prepped for wet conditions, and you set it up in a spot with good drainage that hasn’t become a puddle. Campfires are a lot less fun in the rain too.
Carrying everything is a pain though, particularly if it’s a cold season and you’d have to carry a bunch of furs to help maintain body heat while sleeping.
Yeah, cold weather gear, or if you can’t rely on water availability and you have to carry it with you. Being able to keep yourself alive while not getting overburdened with gear is pretty difficult.
Only real way to do it in that case is to have an extra horse for cargo, which of course further complicates logistics
It really does. There was this excellent video that was shared on lemmy a few weeks ago:
One of the things he covers (around 9 minutes) is the cost of keeping a horse while traveling (from historic records). Really great description of traveling considerations overall.

Why would I need to know shoe sizes when all I have are split hooves?
I don’t remember what business decisions and all day agile release train meetings are, but the grass on the eastern side of that little hill is fresh and delicious. Let’s drink from the cold spring and jump of pure joy!
Everybody wants to go on an adventure until they find out it means being cold and hungry, carrying everything you need on your back, and sleeping outside in the rain for days.
Situations like this forcing crazy improvs are what make D&D one of the most entertaining games ever made.
Task failed successfully!
There’s a difference?
(/jk, because fucking Poes Law)

I mean, over in the UK, we still have taverns everywhere, Pubs!
Tbf I’d prefer that to stroking someone when I tried to shove them. Stroking them just isn’t in the realm of possible outcomes when an experienced combatant tries to shove someone.
For context: This comic is based on the ‘Push an orc off the cliff but crit fail’ joke.
I’m interpreting the guy bringing his new hubby home as the player absolutely embracing the new turn of events.
Dude, I’m straight, and I didn’t even notice it was a gay relationship until you brought it up.
Them both being men isn’t what makes this funny. The player being forced to seduce someone they don’t find attractive is what’s funny. This has been a trope forever. Pretty sure the joke is that he accidentally married an orc, not that he married a dude. This comic is not homophobic, it’s actually RACIST lol
Absolute cinema. 🙌 No notes. Etc, etc, etc
Once more, I agree to disagree

It’s because I don’t sense malice that I’m not mad. I’m just pointing the facts.

I thought it was cute. He wasn’t mad about the gay. He was mad about the lack of murder.
okay…?
Same answer : I agree to disagree, and to each one their opinion.

But you are not, this is what you wished for.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
Hard to tell for sure bc the picture quality isn’t great, but for example all the e’s look pretty different, and the 2 g’s look extremely different.
I like the font and kerning too.
But each individual letter is so exactly the same throughout, it is an “embroidery” font, not hand embroidery.
Source: https://mythjae.wordpress.com/2016/01/28/fated-3/
you’ve gone in too deep. it would be awkward to stop now.
Psychic damage, I’ll take it
Is it not? Damn I wanted to praise the font and keming.
For a moment I was impressed at the stitchery but then I realized it wasn’t real.
If that happened at my table, I would be as uncomfortable as the orc is.
*Rolls 20*: “but instead you lightly caress his back, and he likes it”?
Man, if I rolled a 1 attempting to push someone off a cliff my DM would absolutely have me miss and stumble off the cliff.
I LOLd during a meeting because of this.
This is why critical fails are usually so much better than critical successes. Lean into that shit hard!

All of that becomes tolerable the moment you remove the hairs from your ass crack.
If you know you know.

jipped[ripped off? shorted?] that it’s not a real profession…Is this from something or are you making it up? Because if it’s from something I need to know what it is. It’s brilliant.
Right here
I do this all the time. The quest is “the gang pays their bills” but the big bad is almost always unexpected expenses.

I for one, would like to hear more.
Where is truck-kun these days anyways
Nah dude. We’re declaring a star war
I’ve got an Indiana Jones type who picked up an idol and whoopsie poopsie that elder god had things to do and tentacles for days.

This reads like a wild magic roll. That’s a threat I would take seriously.

That’s why a lot of people heads to dungeons, no rain in dungeons.
Anyone looking for a down on his luck mercenary with a tragic past and an oddly suspicious aversion to the imperial family?

what’s he gonna do, an attack roll? I’m not scared till I see the bag of d6’s

Looks it’s 50/50 demented but sexy fae bliss or Prion disease. Ill take my chances.
Not that list, and I know just how “friendly” King Jellybean was.
The list of trustworthy bathroom buddies? I know. I should be. I’m a friendly jellybean.

Then what are we waiting for?
Where is this so i can avoid it?
Magical adventures can be dangerous. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.

I love Graham Annable’s art! First exposed to it through the Puzzle Agent games. Such a wonderfully kooky and expressive style.
Maybe the first quest is to get to the tavern in the first place.
No worries! My RL name sucks anyway and my feet are easily measured 🤷🏻
That deer is going to lead you deep into the woods to a cake that makes you forget you name, and shoe size.
Slim chance of success?
You mean some kind of a star trek?
Everybody wants to go on an adventure until they find out it means being cold and hungry, carrying everything you need on your back, and sleeping outside in the rain for days.
I’ve seen enough Iseki to know that I need to die and be spotted by the right god/otherworldy-being.
