It only affects handheld mode, but there is shimmering and upscaling artifacts. In docked mode it’s fine.

It’s not really worth AUD$8/US$5 though, it’s only a resolution and framerate upgrade (60fps mode already existed but was masked out, it’s been available on emulators using the official code since last year) and it’s still only SDR. Mario Odyssey had a free upgrade which added 4k/60 AND HDR.

I want to see how it’s bad. I don’t care about social media complaining.

If Nintendo is issuing refunds, then its really bad. Even a free update that ruins a game could be a reason to refund, but this one even asks money.

Remember how much Nintendo fought and gaslit everyone about JoyCon Drift to avoid paying/fixing/refunding customers?

They aren’t fighting this time.

You can’t trust online whining just at face value. Especially something as easy to prove as flawed visuals.

Someone already posted a very good video showing how it has serious visual flaws in handheld mode.

I saw a video showing how it has the same LOD as the original making objects noticeably appear and disappear near the player character.

This update is not worth the money.

I honestly hadn’t noticed it. I think the switch 2 upgrade probably didn’t deserve to be 5 bucks, but, the improved framerate is appreciable in any case. That was the part I wanted the most, and it works.

Except you definitely have to activate the “slow” camera option with it. It’s still pretty fast, but the default “average”, which means instant max speed is crazy with the update. I suppose previously camera speed was limited by framerate.

FWIW: I read this title as “they are just refunding everyone that bought it across the board with no action required from purchasers” which is far more shocking than the article.

The article: A few people said they didn’t like it, thought the quality was worse, asked for a refund and got it. So, if you own it and agree, give that a shot.

And mind you despite what people love to say, if you actually talk to Nintendo Support, refunds for digital purchases are entirely normal.

They always offered them right away for me, even when I explicitly didn’t want one. Hell they offered to refund me a hardware purchase without me asking about it, just as an option in case I don’t want it any longer.

The upgrade is noticeable, but meh. They shouldn’t be charging for it

I’ve asked them a few days ago, and they didn’t want to refund it.

Damn, that sucks.

I’m not overly worried about that (loss of whatever is 5$ in my currency), they should be. This is wrote back at them, and got a similar response again
