Questions, answers and conversations

One kid put on his dad’s respirator and said it was a gas mask. Then he turned on an air compressor and said it was emitting poison gas and told me I would die over night.

Not older than 10 years old, parts are going to start failing on your watch. (I make exceptions for toyotas and jeeps)

Not over 140K miles, most common engines start having problems around this time, or require rebuilds.

No Private Sales, they ask too much for the vehicle and know it’s about to cost them thousands (some part is about to go) so are just looking to get out from under it. If it was worth a damn, the dealership would have taken it as a trade in for their new one.

must have 4WD or AWD I live in the north, so I’d rather not have to deal with shitty roads in the winter.

For me personally, I also have a rule against ALL GM based products. Those are hillbilly cars and cookie cutter mobiles.

Recognizing certain music definitely does it to me too. Especially if I have strong memories around that song.

Other times I’ll get it from music I don’t recognize if it has strong multi layered harmonies.

Pleco is the dictionary app I use. It does a good job translating phrases I type in and supports a variety of input methods. It has traditional Chinese characters as an option and offers the zhuyin(bopomofo) display as an option too.

Reading Serj Tankian’s memoirs: Down with the System.

It’s an interesting insight to how music was more a means of activism and bringing visibility to the Armenian genocide. It’s a very interesting story with almost as much history about his people as it has about him so far.

Not having them but having to hear other people talk about them constantly.

Proof please :)

Strange when there are entire sites set up for people to post Amazon deals, and not once in the 10+ years they’ve all been going has this ever happened when people followed the deal through.

Linux’s inventor said that AI coding tools are fine and helpful. Those tools are made by openai and the likes, which are run by some of the worst people in history, many of which are fascist supporters. Therefore, using that same logic, Linux is a fascist os that should be abolished.

-_- Seriously. I wish people would use their own brains to think critically and logically through these paths, and stop echoing into the chamber.

Edit.
Mulvad is not a fascist company or product just because a co-founder used his own money for fascist things.

It isn’t rust on battery poles to worry about. If there is a bunch of crusty battery corrosion then it is gasses escaping the battery and reacting with air.

It can be cleaned off but if it is quite a lot of it then the battery might be old and need replacement soon.

Marxists would agree that few things apply universally, and they always consider the context, or “material conditions.” When liberals say Marxists are dogmatic, they’re showing their ignorance.

*It is quite wrong to take a formalist attitude and blindly carry out directives without discussing and examining them in the light of actual conditions […].*

Only if those wankers get caught and convicted. Until then, it’s just hearsay.

That sounds fun! I’ll check it out.

Not a book but I’ve just about collected all the pieces of historical evidence you can obtain in Caves of Qud and have just been reading all that recently (it’s pretty dense). The lore and writing of this game is awesome as hell and I certainly would get books of it if they ever wrote any.

That sounds good! We just finished Ourlander and the whole time i was screaming, “you know the future! Fucking build something!!”

I mean, I am re-reading your post, and it doesnt look like you are asking for advice, but rather seeking a discussion of an observed phenomenon. You use phrases like “whats up with X?” and “is it always the fate of Y?” Then at the end you ask for suggestions of other communities to avoid, which seems, at least in my reading, to be the only time you are asking for advice. So in a post which seems, for the bulk of it, to want general discussion, it seems reasonable to want to see specific examples of what we are discussing.

Thanks! I’ve been finding a lot of great stuff on Libby.

I haven’t read Dan Brown in years. I’ll check that out.

Haha, I did the same thing when I was in the US a couple years ago… though it was like $50 then, and of course I had to buy two so my girl could have a fair fight.

It was actually pretty fun, like paintball without as much pain or mess. I regret that I didn’t dare to take it back with me on the airplane.

I’m lucky enough to have a job that pays well where I work from home and don’t have to stick to a schedule so my little farm doesn’t have to provide any real monetary value and just gives us decent food stability and good will with neighbors.

We just moved here last year so were still getting set up, but so far we have a dozen pear and apple trees, tomatoes, too much zucchini, an assortment of peppers, eggplant, bush beans, 1/8th of an acre of potatoes and a 1/4 acre of pumpkin and squash. Once the squash bed is done I’ll fill it with onions and garlic to overwinter. We also have a nice little flock of quail for eggs.

If we had more room I would love to expand everything, plant a lot more fruit bushes and trees, get some ducks and chickens, maybe a couple goats and a donkey

Was looking for a connection to maybe a graphic artist or something.

PC. A console is just a super locked down computer anyway, you might as well get the real thing.

The vast majority of advice you will ever hear about anything is medicinal - it’s contextual to a specific set of circumstances, and is meant to deal with a certain problem or a particular type of situation. Most advice is not applicable universally, even if it is sometimes good advice.

Following from this, if you get someone sharing a piece of advice, consider if that advice suits your circumstances before following it. People have different lives, and not everything everyone tells you will be helpful advice for every situation. Like medicine.

If you have cottage industry laws (where I live if you are a small producer selling locally you aren’t subject to the same regulations as a bigger producer) you could also think about making soap from the goat milk, people seem to be successful with that here. Candles from beeswax too.

It’s fine to make a living. As my midwife said, you need to value your own knowledge and labor fairly, as you would for someone else.

SteamOS is still only for AMD systems, correct? Been waiting several years for Nvidia support. Bazzite works for Nvidia.

They’re also super popular right now, or possibly just past the peak of their fad status. I bought one on clearance at Walmart a little while ago just on impulse. Because it glows in the dark… and also shoots gel beads that glow in the dark. Complete with an internal UV LED to charge them up, like the world’s dodgiest airsoft tracer unit. Hey, it was twenty bucks.

I already took it apart. Inside is the most plasticy, most Chinese knocked off airsoft AEG style gearbox I’ve ever seen in my life. It just tickles me pink.

gel bead shooter

100% this. I tried the “Gel Blaster Surge”, it shoots off 10 gels per second and it makes such clicking noise for each one it shoots out. That’d also explain why OP didn’t see anything on the ground, they break into a ton of small pieces upon contact.

They can actually sting a bit, but nowhere near as an airsoft pellet does.

Get yourself a PC. Bonus points for installing SteamOS.

Edit: You can always upgrade a PC to increase its lifespan. Not so with a PS5.

Has to be a troll or clinically delusional

Edit~absolutely a troll having fun

Well you’re saying something that is blatantly untrue and then pretending its a pervasive issue you’re being forced to deal with here every day. Meanwhile this is one of the few places its actually very uncommon and widely frowned upon. Only makes sense if you’re trolling.

Sometimes… Cyberpunk 2077 at launch is one example where the supposed optimization was less than optimal.

The other element is that it’s easy to get locked out of updates if the developer chooses not to support them on console. For instance, L4D2 on the Xbox 360 is absolutely gimped in comparison to PC, where it has new official campaigns and a thriving modding ecosystem 15+ years after launch… an ecosystem an Xbox 360 user can’t touch.

None of my airsoft guns would even be felt through clothing. But since OP didn’t see any beads on the ground, I doubt it was even a really weak airsoft gun.

I have a list but it’s easy too long to post here. I tell the sales guy to go away since it’s going to be about half an hour before I am even ready to start the car.

I guess one simple piece of advice is to get a code reader and plug it into the OBDII port to see if there are any codes. Done will verify the mileage.

Even the dinkiest airsoft gun would probably hurt enough to get OP pissed off about it. My money is on some kind of gel bead shooter, same as the others.

Yeah I currently have chickens, goats, sheep, a llama, pigs, ducks and bees. I don’t really operate for money more as a hobby and for food. I do sell and donate my products regularly, pretty much breaks even, which is okay by me.

They really don’t. They just kind of boing off of you.

No restaurant worth their salt is unaware that soda fountains can be broken down. Weekly cleaning minimum, if not nightly, is standard in any clean restaurant.

Chili. Definitely chili, a few type of it. It take small land to produce a lot of it, and chili also sell in high price per kg.

Also okra, bittergourd, pineapple

Cows, goats, chickens. For pets and food; only eating the milk and eggs tho.

Fennel, it grows well for me and is a premium crop, and maybe Stokes Purple sweet potatoes and okra.

But really, fennel because it is reasonably well compensated and the only thing I grow the bugs ignore. Hong Tsoi is vigorous for me but doesn’t cost as much.

If you have room for animals, figure out what people will pay for and raise those. I have no idea on that.

I would say I’ve seen very little compared to reddit but I’d like to get it even closer to 0 if possible

by she/her/hers OP depth: 3

I’m not really sure what you mean. You think it’s somehow hypocritical to like porn and dislike running into “women use makeup to LIE TO MEN” memes every day? I’m afraid I don’t see the contradiction. It kinda seems like you just have a problem with women who express sexuality and think we should accept poor treatment.

by she/her/hers OP depth: 2

I’m going to be honest, I’m a little perplexed by the demands for evidence. I didn’t really ask to debate wether or not my experiences are real, I asked for some advice. The typical thing to do if you’re unfamiliar with the topic at hand and therefore can’t offer any advice when asked would be to not offer any. I don’t know why people are treating it like a challenge and it’s my job to convince you, but I have some guesses, like, for example, that a lot of you aren’t ready to accept criticism of something you don’t like, or that some of you have some internal work to do that you’re not ready for.

Other commentors here know exactly what I’m talking about without demanding proof. It’s not just me. I’m sorry if I misjudged you and you’re actually just very interested in learning more about me, but you don’t come off like that at all. You come off like you’re prepared to dismiss any examples I tried to show you anyway.

Keep in mind, PS5 is nearing the end of its life cycle, like 2(?) more years and Sony is preparing for the PS6.

I would suggest getting a mid-range PC and in 2 years you can decide to either stick with PC and perform some upgrades or work towards a PS6.

More males are conceived, but more are miscarried, more are stillbirths, more die in childhood, young adulthood and middle age, and by the time you are my age there are more women than men. I think some of that is XX conferring resistance to some genetic diseases though.

The actual dating part. Aside from 2 relationships I had in my high school days, everyone I dated I met through dating apps and it just feels forced. Like, we didn’t meet naturally and know literally nothing about each other, so it just feels like work to accomplish a goal and not having fun with a friend. So much effort is spent getting to know the other person and it kinda feels like a job. I wish I could skip that part and just be in the “best friends that have sex” phase forever.

In certain places and frameworks. It’s happened the other way around where I live to where dudes got to walk free after SAing a child. But either was seems to not be as much of a thing in cultures that are less focused on punitive justice

The only thing I would add is the games on PS5 vs PC is they’re optimized for the console

also why AI companions are going to be a huge thing in the near future and already exploding in popularity.

it also means all fault and responsibility is in your camp, and the other person considers themselves blameless in all things.

the fact many folks complete lose all moral compass, common sense, and reason when it comes to romantic relationships. and thus end up in destructive patterns to themselves and others.

blows my mind how like, many of my exes were upstanding folks to the outside world, but when it came to me and our relationship, lying, cheating, stealing, hypocrisy and all that was 100% justified, because feelings.

the terrifying thing is that now on first dates people like straight up lead with how hypocritical and abusive they are and think there is nothing wrong with it, because the internet told them it was good to be that way.

by she/her/hers OP depth: 2

That’s a good way to look at it, every time someone tells you about discrimination, you should ask them how they brought it upon themselves

I would experiment. try out chickens and ducks or geese. try out sheep and goat. various perenials.

I would add sugarcane to the list. Its juice is pretty good and it’s a “plant and forget it” type of crop. Just don’t overdo it. The seedlings from one single sugarcane are more than enough.

There are guns that shoot Orbeez. They sound like that. They are water based, but I don’t think they leave you wet.

The expectation on me to be the instigator/aggressor in all interactions. In either connotation of that statement

If you are considering buying a ps5 pro, might as well get a steam machine.

If you just want something “affordable” to play games on, pa5 is the right way to go

I’ve been using Duolingo to learn a language for a few years now, enjoy it, and feel that I continue to progress. I know there are other apps out there as well but I don’t have any experience with them. Duo does have a gamification component to it — some of which you can disable, but not all — and there is a cost if you choose to subscribe.

For me, though, I’m likely going to need to immerse myself and/or take a few formal classes to get better at conversational speaking as I keep learning. Not many folks around me learning German. The app does help practice conversations and give tips, which is nice, but using a language in real life with another person is more effective for me.

Probably plastic pellets from an airsoft. They literally come in any color of the rainbow.

a pc is far more versatile. I personally would always choose that but it really comes down to personal preference.

PC, but put SteamOS or Bazzite on it and save the cost of a windows license. Windows has been noticeably worse in the last year, in my opinion. Meanwhile, Linux gaming has been improving dramatically.

That’s interesting because I usually have the opposite problem.

The more complex characters are generally called “Traditional Chinese” in English if that helps

I personally would much rather have a PC, given a choice between having one or the other. When I have had both in the past, I have always wound up with a console that’s gathering dust.

However, that depends on what you’re doing with it and what you want. Consoles have their own strong points:

  • Less setup/troubleshooting/maintenance.

  • Because the platform is locked down, harder for other players to cheat in multiplayer competitive online games. The PC is open.

  • Everyone has more-or-less the same hardware, which is typically desirable for 3D multiplayer competitive video games. No “get a more expensive and powerful video card to get a slight edge”.

  • There is basically one standard controller, so games in the game library are more likely to support the features of your controller (assuming, of course, that you’re using a controller on the PC).

  • Some platform-exclusive games (and obviously that cuts both ways, and the PC library is much larger, but if you very specially want some of the PS5 exclusives, you need a PS5 to do it).

Depends on how much money you have and how willing you are to fiddle around with hardware and settings. The default answer you are gonna get on a place like this is always gonna be PC, but a console is a great budget option and it will also save you a lot of headaches because any game you buy for it is optimised for the hardware, or it isn’t and you can’t do a damn thing about it anyway so you don’t have to waste your time on trying to fix it. The limitations of a console can give you a certain peace of mind compared to the limitless freedom a PC will bring you, if you get what I mean

When you arrive, make sure the engine is cold. Check all the fluids. If there’s milkshake in the radiator or the dipstick, that’s a no-go. if the trani fluid is dark and smells burnt, that’s a no-go. Start it. If it’s hard starting, maybe pass. check the paperwork, make sure the VIN matches and that the title is clear. I’ve never had an issue with a car that had a reconstructed title, but also I’ve only bought cars older than 2000, because fuck modern cars

The PC is more money up front, but drastically cheaper over the lifetime of the product. It’s also more versatile, and capable of upgrading along with almost infinite backwards compatibility for older titles.

Consoles will be a couple of hundred (or thousand, depending on the PC you chose) cheaper, but you are forced to buy games within its ecosystem, usually at full retail price - a library of 10 AAA games will cost $600 on console, where you can get the same library on Steam for half or less of than that by simply keeping an eye on sales. The console won’t be upgradeable. You cannot easily pirate games, and there’s no such thing as DRM free gaming. And backwards compatibility is janky or simply removed for most consoles.

The only place consoles really win out is in live social gaming - it’s a lot easier to get a group of friends to play PS5 on the couch than it is to get them to play PC on the couch. Aside from that, though, it’s sort of like comparing a tricycle to a Harley… yeah, they’re both bikes, but the differences become real clear once you get out on the road.

Let me ask you, what is it about the PS5 that makes it even worth your consideration against a PC?

Pc. A ps5 can only play what Sony wants you to play on it. A pc can play everything from tennis for two, to GameCube and ps2 with only a few clicks

PC. It’s backwards compatible for many years and often can play older console games as well.

Well small to tiny personal farms; you’ll want to grow the things you like to eat. Just skip the staple crops (wheat, rice, potatoes, beans) as they are dirt cheap and not worth the trouble (except at scale)

You can run SO, SO much more on a PC. And not be locked out of your purchases at a whim (depending on how you buy).

Very capable hardware can be had for the price of a PS5.

Corrosion.

How rusty is the under side? Splotches can mean nothing… Flaking is bad or otw to it.

Is there corrosion or water damage in the cabin or under the hood? Run. Pull the inside fuse box cover off or look behind the glove box.

Beyond that… Definitely drive it. Listen to it cold start… Once up to temp drive it (safely) hard.

Pop the hood, trunk, open all the things… Anything look or smell weird?

Carfax/report can shed some light but isn’t perfect. Came from Florida right after a bad hurricane… Pass. No oil changes until 30-40k and llc.owned? Prob rental… Possibly abused. Sporadic oil changes? Toss up… Doing your own work obviously won’t generate a point… Some shops don’t bother… Etc.
