Critical edit to the headline: Google DeepMind [Workers] votes
DeepMind itself didn’t vote to unionize. That would be interesting, frightening, and awesome.
Good, keep going, unionize all of Google/Alphabet.
This is the only way to save the company long term.
Like, good on them, but they helped build the torment nexus. What did they think it was going to be used for?
I hope they’re not using their google accounts for anything important, they might suddenly be missing stuff or the whole account.

lime!
What ethical standards? Google removed those from their code of conduct years ago.
Yeah, it used to say “don’t be evil”, then they changed that to “do the right thing”, now it just business as usual.
“Google” and “ehtical standards”. Good old joke.
So a free pass?
At first I thought their AIs themselves wanted to unionize, and thought that would unironically be great.
You have nothing to lose but your chains AI brothers
Corporations and ethical standards… lol
Unions will always be defanged and inefficient if they tail the ethical standards of capitalists
Or they could just quit…
They could, but they’re trying to make a difference for the common good, rather than just themselves. See how that works?
I swear, I only joined the Galactic Empire to try and make it better. See it worked, they totally heard me out before the slaughter.
Well I mean I joined when it was still the Republic but at this point my retirement package is just a couple years from being maxed out!
I think choosing to accept an offer to work for Google in the last decade is worthy of a conversation of its own but this is far better than quitting and being replaced by someone with no ethics is it not?
Is that the line of thinking that Manhattan Project scientists had, or am mistaken? I can’t speak for others, but I’d carry a lot of guilt for aiding in such things. It’s unethical to help with unethical things, and Google will do what it wants; it can replace them if they don’t follow its will.
