I’ll talk to someone in English, realize they don’t speak English, and immediately switch to Spanish and completely miss that they don’t speak Spanish.
I saw a video by a deaf person in Germany who said that when people realize he doesn’t understand them, they switch to English which doesn’t help and he’s still better at reading lips in German than in English
