Explanation: It was not unusual for Roman Emperors to collect more names and titles than the average person, with three names being standard for Roman citizens, but the gladiator-mad Emperor Commodus took it to an extreme, eventually granting himself a total of 12 names which were meant to reinforce how special and godlike he was, and attempted to rename the Empire itself (and all associated things, like Roman - sorry, Commodian - citizens) after him. He liked, especially, to portray himself as the earthly reincarnation of the divine Hercules.
