The Brick Game, through the Ages

My first ever video game machine was a version of this piece of crap!

Great read. 10/10 experience.

I had one of these in the late 90s, although mine was smaller, and folded up like an old clamshell flip-phone. It was surprisingly good for what it was. I used to fantasize about just how complex of a game one could make with it, especially if the centers and outlines of the individual blocks could be controlled independently.

There’s another version of the newer game that has square tiles. I got one and it’s brilliant.

I had one of these circa 2003 or 2004. It had the form factor of a giant SNES controller and th screen flipped up out of the middle.

I want to say that mine only claimed 99 games.

I had one. Still remember the startup jingle it had.

One of the games was Tetris, but with square blocks only. That was enough challenge for my four year old brain.

What a coincidence! Just 2 days ago (Saturday) I was on a flea market and saw this grey one. Almost purchased it for the memories, but it was in a really rough state. These were actually “real” games with a LCD display; a huge step up from the Game & Watch clones.

I had a similar one as a kid, and I’m feeling weirdly nostalgic about it.

Wonder if someone has an emulator somewhere of them…
