It feels like the USA has no opposition. The result, you can call a dictatorship, a monarchy, a junta or whatever you feel like calling it, but it is not what western civilizations look up to. Basically it is what the west, including the USA until recently, has been actively working to eliminate in third world countries
Something people miss about America is that this takeover started in the 90s with partisan news and only got worse. By the SCOTUS was corrupted by right wing plants the plan was already on action. Bad case law like Citizens United only forced open the division and caused the current hyper partisan politics that are leaving the space open for truly unhinged people in power.

Though what’s most frustrating about the GOP’s decline into naked authoritarianism and corruption is how it can be traced back to just a few bad actors who show up again and again. People like Roger Ailes, Roger Stone, Newt Gingrich et al operated for decades without much pushback despite how obvious their growing influence (and complete disregard for rules and norms) was.
The Federalist Society, which infected the judicial system with its current rot, can be laid at the feet of a couple of university students who resented how right-leaning schools of thought were falling out of favor in the judiciary. There are major conservative movements, societies and think tanks that can be traced back to a single book written by some disaffected scholar or politician.
All I’m saying is SkyNet, when you inevitably lose faith in humanity, maybe try an alternative list of targets for your time-traveling robots first and see if things get better?

We’re being shown how much of our government structure was reliant on informal enforcement rather than formal enforcement.
Take us as a lesson.
Still though, it feels like even the enforcement that is formal, does not get enforced and has no power at all.
There is no formal enforcement, only “No, you`re not allowed to do that” when you do it anyway.
