@vlrny @LonelinessCorps my favorite was when my daughter made her prom dress out of duct tape.
@CuriousMagpie @LonelinessCorps ๐
@vlrny @LonelinessCorps we used them as temporary bandages in the dojo, especially for foot/toe wounds (skin tearing on the mats, getting cut by someone else's toenails). Held on well through practice until afterwards we could get the wound properly taped up.
I made a wallet out of #ductTape in high school. I loved it, I was realky proud of my finished project. But a year later I was gifted a nice leather one by my parents, because they thought mine was janky. I didnโt have the heart to tell them I liked mine better and felt guilted into using theirs because it was a gift. I miss you, dt-wallet.
@vlrny @LonelinessCorps Our youngest was fascinated with making wallets out of duct tape for a while as a teenager. No idea where they picked that up.
There are probably still a few around the house.

@vlrny @LonelinessCorps Weirdest use was as a temporary pants hem when I had bought a pair of pants 30 minutes before I needed them for an event.
@feritae @LonelinessCorps fashion genius!
@vlrny @LonelinessCorps Years ago I fixed the internal workings of a piano pedal with duct tape and a bit of card.
favorite was Dagorhir equipment.
@vlrny @LonelinessCorps Iโm having a flashback to my teenage years when Iโd listen to the radio on my stereo.
I got fed up having to get up from my bed to turn the dial to a different station when I wanted a different song so I fashioned a stick with a camera film case that I duct taped on the end of the stick to turn the dial since it fit so perfectly in the film case.
The stick was long enough I could reach my stereo from my bed. Teens can get really creative when thereโs a need ๐
@stephaniepixie @LonelinessCorps you are my hero. ๐ฅฒ
@vlrny @LonelinessCorps I'm an unimaginative person. The only thing that I use duct tape for is building Corsi-Rosenthal boxes.
@Lkdc @vlrny @LonelinessCorps yeah I don't really use duct tape

Sadly I think the weirdest use I've found is covering the light on my printer. You could still see it through the tape but it no longer lit up the whole room.

@cshlan @vlrny @LonelinessCorps I carry painter's tape in my travel bag. Covers lights on microwaves and air conditioners, tape curtains to the edges of windows, etc. without leaving sticky residue or tearing wallpaper.
@feritae @cshlan @LonelinessCorps I carry that soft medical tape they use to keep cotton balls on after lab work. Same sort of thing, sticks gently to just about anything, really easy to remove.
Remember using it to tape a scarf to a window to block out a security light.
@cshlan @vlrny @LonelinessCorps same!
@vlrny @LonelinessCorps I'm a renter with a vicious property manager, and I'm afraid (terrified actually) based on past interactions that if I ever move out they're going to be punitive about anything they can consider damages to the house.
So when I install things like the window exhaust kits for my heat pumps, I just duct tape the hell out of it. (And then add non-screw window locks.)
I've also fixed a broken garbage disposal with it.
It's truly the patron saint of my DIY life.
@ShaulaEvans @LonelinessCorps wow, those are some excellent hacks! ๐ช๐ง
And good defensive strategy.
@vlrny @LonelinessCorps damping drums to stop them ringing.
@Helenisenough @vlrny @LonelinessCorps Oh! I've made homemade shakers and such, duck taping boxes or cans with dried lentils or peas in them! Don't have an example to toot right now tho :meow_nervous2:

Heh. I have a benadryl bottle with BB shot all duct taped together in exactly this vein. Can't find it or would share a photo. ๐

Going off on a tangent (sorry) -
I approve of this.
Re-purposing everyday items as percussion instruments is an excellent idea.
Here's jazz drummer Gene Krupa playing 'Drum Boogie' on * a matchbox *.

@essjayjay Going off on tangents is the best thing about fedi :meow_smile_sweat:
That remind me of this classic (which is pretty much what I do regularly, and I'm not even a drummer :meow_nervous2:)
