When I was 17 I got a job as a deckhand and I worked my ass off. Every day I’d come to work and the boss would tell me what needed to be done and I’d set off right away and do it. I’d work constantly at the task until it was done or it was time to leave. After a few days a couple of the guys I worked with, guys in their early 30s, pulled me aside and told me that I was working way too hard and I was making them look bad. I laughed, thinking they were joking. They didn’t laugh.
i’m really digging how boring (but meaningful) these are; it makes me feel a little bit like how i used to feel when i paid less attention as a liberal.
Of course they do - every sovereign nation has that right.
That’s one of the most notable ways in which self-serving assholes have warped things to their own benefit - Americans have neen indictrinated into treating national sovereignty as essentially a privilege the US is rightfully empowered to grant or withhold rather than the fundamental right it needs to be.
