This is no laughing matter, but I had no other way to express such disgust. Unbelievable

Evil corp selling evil with blatant disregard, quite probably intentionally to a growing power nation

Hey now how are they supposed to make their next trillion dollars if we start forcing them to check every little $1000 ad spend for csam

The BBC reported an advert to Instagram showing a very young girl in tears, with wording indicating that she had been sexually assaulted. But 24 hours later, Instagram replied saying it hadn’t removed the advert because “our review team found that the advertiser’s ad does not go against our community standards”.

This is par for the course for Meta. Years and years ago, there was a Reddit sub (ironic, considering the platform’s pro-paedo stance now) about reporting CSAM. I was linked to a Facebook page where a much older man was sitting with a girl at a table, she looked about 9-10, and it was not a good situation. Even as a guest I was able to see the image and report it. They asked for an email address. I used a burner. They replied within 24 hours, stating that the ad did not go against their community standards. This was before the Trump involvement with tech, so that wasn’t the reason.

Funny they mention Telegram though. I started using Telegram maybe a decade ago, and I mainly use it to chat with my wife. I am aware it has channels, but I’ve never seen any of any value. You can look for local channels, and I don’t know how that works, but it’s all dog shit. I’ve certainly never seen porn channels on Telegram. I wouldn’t know where to look, and it’s not really something I’d want to seek out. I browse /all on Lemmy, and when I’m of a mind to, I do look at the fedinsfw stuff, but I have it blurred out by default. (Show, but blur.) Sometimes I click. Most of the time I just keep scrolling. I’m over twice most these women’s ages anyway. One claiming to be 48 has been posting lately. That’s a little older than me, but I love a 70s or 80s gal. I’m not attracted to young gals.

Comments from other communities

That’s honestly not surprising these days unfortunately. Since republicans in the US took over again and with Elon Musk setting the precedent of little to no moderation online, it’s shockingly easy to accidentally find some very disgusting things on big social media platforms. Literally nobody that runs these companies give a shit any more and since most of them are based in the US the government in charge of them doesn’t give a shit anymore either.

Related, but google news (google ads) has been pushing AI generated politicians (including prime minister) promoting scams, and whenever I report the ad to google, they always without fail say this doesn’t go against their terms of service.

These companies no longer care.

Report it to the people being impersonated instead.

He looks so lifelike.

Another classic day at Meta. I still wonder why people use their services.

It’s free on poorer countries even for those without mobile internet data. And we know why the service is free…

True, but I think the fact that a good portion of the services were the “first” to be used also comes into play.

As an example, I always think of WhatsApp, which in my country has (unfortunately) become the messaging service used by everyone, even businesses. WhatsApp was the first to arrive in a market where no one else offered that service (or offered it at its level), and thanks to this, it has gained a following of users who now, out of laziness, don’t want to switch services even though they (perhaps) realize that there are better ones out there.

For many, they use it simply out of habit and the laziness of not wanting to switch to something else. Like those who used Internet Explorer because installing another, clearly better, browser was too much of a hassle.

What do you mean its free even for those without data?

I mean even without any mobile credit, you can still browse Facebook in many developing countries.

Because people forgot about “net neutrality” and, for example in my country, mobile operators include 2GB WhatsApp, 4GB Facebook etc. in their packages. The newest trend I saw is “unlimited data for ChatGPT”. Internetust be classified as a utility globally. But at this rate, soon power companies will have “100kWh free for Bosch appliances” or something like that.

Ads on Instagram are only published after first being approved by its moderation technology… When the BBC reported one of the ads to Instagram, the social media platform responded 24 hours later saying the post did not violate its “community guidelines”.

Makes the mass layoffs in the tech sector all the more galling.

Thank god I never see ads anywhere, reminds me of the promoted posts on Google that phish unfortunate non adblock users into handing over their login credentials.
