Spain must pay €2.5m to man who spent 15 years in jail for rapes he did not commit

MADRID, June 20 (Reuters) - A Moroccan man who spent 15 years in prison for rapes he did not commit and who said the Spanish justice system had ruined his life is to be awarded 2.5 million euros ($2.87 million) in compensation, Spain’s Supreme Court ruled.

So that’s the going rate for 15 years eh….
More than I expected to be honest, Germany has a rate of 75€ per day which would result in a whopping 400,000€. Austria has between 20€-50€ per day for instance.
In addition, in Germany, one may be compensated for verifiable monetary loss.
Though that verifiable monetary loss is subject to be reduced by the cost of free housing, food, etc in prison. After all, you would’ve spent money on cost of living had you not been imprisoned!
