They want to make “tools” that allow them to redirect the costs of employing storyboard artists and other craftspeople into the hands of tech companies.
And they’re trying to sell this to all of us by saying “hey, don’t worry, you’re not going to end up with a bunch of Nicolas Winding Refn-ass looking AI slop Sora movies.”
But ultimately this means fewer creative people making livings and more misanthropic psychopaths becoming billionaires. It gives the rich access to creativity without giving creative people access to riches.
I care more about that than AI slop in movies.
Well I guess A24 is done making good movies, It was bound to happen eventually but to get enshittified by AI is just insulting.

True, but there are fantastic uses of AI in filmmaking, for example CorridorKey, which is a new and open AI-powered green screen masking tool.
Not everything has to be slop with this technology.
Was exactly thinking about CorridorKey when seeing this headline. A24 could end up with a suite of expert tools that deliver excellent results with way less human labor. This could ultimately increase the ambitions of low budget production
Right, using AI to reduce the tedium of the work, but keeping the creative control and quality in the hands of humans is the ideal solution.

A24 is a fantastic studio that’s done an excellent job of bringing some really creative projects to fruition. Hopefully whatever this tool is, it isn’t something that will replace human creativity.
TheReturnOfPEBGoogle will buy the studio after the tools are built and fire every human there except one.
That is my guess of the fruit that it will bear.
75 million was all it took. They will lose that in box office sales on every movie from here on out possibly. I don’t understand these kinds of decisions.
I’d like to think this would be about building tools like Corridor Key but they’re probably just gonna try to replace actors and writers with AI. Oh well, they had a good run.

_dystopian_vibecheckI might get a lot of downvotes for saying this, but ai tools does not necessarily result in ai generated content (be it good or bad). We got great movies thanks to cgi and computer assisted editing. The invention of digital editing was not only good or only bad. I’m not saying ai tools equals only good things, but just hating on the technological advancements without knowing what it will results in seems kind of senseless to me.

Saying it’s “mindless” ignores the metric ton of terrible shit the AI industry produces, the harm they’re doing to mental and planet health, and the absolute unprofitably of it all. And this is coming from a programmer that is forced to use it daily because the alternative is unemployment.

Sounds like they’re just paying for an insiders view on how to make a good product for the industry. I imagine with sufficiently strong AI most TV, commercials, movies, games, software and so on will be AI generated.
Also it seems like there’s going to be a separation in society akin to the technological separation between most modern people and the Amish / Mennonites. That is it seems like the foundation is there for those who prefer a pre AI world and those who are fine with these changes.
Why are you including Quakers in the “Amish /Mennonites” part? I don’t think there’s really any technological separation between “modern people”, and Quakers.

Google gives A24 $75m in server credit so that A24 can test the viability of the research before Google actually has to spend any effort on it themselves.
I very much doubt this will happen, but it’d be so funny if A24’s report at the end lf the test was “nah it’s shit, we checked”

A24 did such a spectacular job of totally fucking up the rerelease of Stop Making Sense, to the point that I have no expectations of decent action from them.
