It’s like a cross between a bumble bee and a hummingbird, with dragonfly wings. SE WI, USA. I’ve lived here most my life and never saw it until now

My identification app tells me it’s with 99% certainty a broad-bordered bee hawk-moth

Based on what it says for distribution I don’t think so, but a hummingbird moth is very similar (another clearwing moth)

Moths are not true bugs. True bugs belong to the order Hemiptera, while moths are part of the order Lepidoptera.

Going by pictures on Wikipedia, it’s this one. The H. diffinis pics have a yellow spot on the butt, OP’s doesn’t.
