top ten anime betrayals

Glad I got my anime girl wallpapers the old fashion way.

Looking at the average pc gamer’s desktop, sounds like a 1000 IQ move to me.

Oh no! They found my weakness!

Not exactly difficult to guess coming from that instance…

NM, I’m an idiot.

Is dbzer0 known for anime content or something? I thought the main one was ani.social.

Not into it myself, but I presume from the common abbreviation that it is named after the anime series.

I think it means division by zero

edit: it does: https://dbzer0.com/

Wow! Don’t I feel dumb. All this time I’ve been making an assumption based upon a common abbreviation. Thank you for clearing that up.

Yeah, imagine an instance completely based off anime.

Coming from a Russian corporation? Even facts I can’t trust from these guys

What’s old is new again!

I used Wallpaper Engine for a bit and was amused when I found the anime filter option, but there is a lot of it. I’m not surprised to hear that bad actors found a way to exploit its popularity.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think having a DRM-encumbered application running in the background that relies on another large application to launch just so you can have a fancy wallpaper is kind of dumb.

Wallpaper Engine only requires Steam running during setup and grabbing stuff from workshop. After that, it works independently.

ditto, what a weird program

People only learn when they are affected by the consequences of exposing themselves.
Otherwise, this wouldn’t even be news.

Alt Title: Valve distributes malware unchecked via Steam Workshop

Alternative title: Highly dangered species Linux user to go extinct, due to Anime Girl wallpaper malware.

Yeah, Lemmy doesn’t have ani social instances dedicated to anime or anything.

I don’t even know how many instances, communities, and users I’ve had to block to stop seeing anime in my feed, and it still comes up regularly despite that.

That’s not a particular criticism of the art form (though I do find the regular depiction of sexualized kids or infantilized adults intensely creepy) but it really is very common here.

This actually has nothing to do with Anime or weebs. This can happen with any fancy wallpaper you get through steam workshop That’s why the title and slant to this story are so frustrating.

“Haha yeah, bad things are happening to people! "

You are no better fuckwad. In fact the evidenice is clear, you are likely worse than most.

Yeah, obviously my wife who just enjoys having cute interactive wallpapers is a pedo creep, right? It’s fucking strange that your mind even goes in that direction

Developer Response,

TLDR: if you never enabled Application type wallpapers in the filters (which is off by default), then searched for application wallpapers with Chinese names and then ignored the big red warning, you are not affected by this.

Slightly funny… Be careful out there!

What has the world come to? Is nothing holy anymore?
