My wife and I are starting a garden for the first time this year. We originally were just planning to do transplants for everything, but a family member gifted us some of her favorite seeds and we’ve had some luck germinating them! Work is busy so we are not babysitting them as much as we should, but excited to see what makes it.
Here’s the thing: Last summer, obviously too late, I planted a few Brussels sprout plants. In fall/early winter, the sprouts were still too small to harvest, and, lazy as I am, I left the plants where they were. Now, at the beginning of February, I was actually able to harvest some decent sprouts.
We (Team at a community supported agrigculture) in Zurich rewilded a grassland into a muddy and biodiverse park with different zones. Here a picture in summer.
Started these batch of peppers, Poblanos and Habanero’s, back at the end of November 2025. Also have one 7 Pot Primo pepper plant growing. They’re looking ready to be transplanted soon as I am getting antsy to start a new batch of super hots. Currently hardening off a few as I have ran out of room in my 4x2 grow tent.
It was totally green when I went on vacation. I watered it heavily beforehand knowing I would be away a couple weeks. Got back and boom, ready to eat! Not sure if it was because the soil got a bit dry. Smells very good.
I’m not really into flowers, so I’m looking for some advice. I have grocery store orchids from two years ago that are always in bloom. They have 3-7 flowers each basically nonstop. Unfortunately they have far outgrown the 17” stakes I put in their very small original pots and I don’t know what my best option would be. I water them with two ice cubes once a week and I’m not looking to really increase the level of investment I’m putting in. I know I’m not doing a lot, but I’ve not had to feed them or mist them or any of the other things I keep reading online and I’d like to not have to worry about that. My main issue is that they are getting way too tall. I read that you can cut the stems, but I’m worried that any cutting will prompt additional flowering and maybe a need for more water or food or something that I likely won’t be able to recognize causing them to die. I also keep seeing people talk about pots with holes and special airable soil, but they are in little plastic cups and I can lift them straight up and the soil is basically a solid almost styrofoam-like consistency so I’m not sure I believe what I’m reading. Any advice or suggestions to preserve the low maintenance aspect while trimming and possibly repotting would be greatly appreciated. I looked online and this post is my exact same experience to a T:

I’ve recently planted some chili plants, and after a week, I noticed that the leaves were yellowing. After running through all the possibilities, I found that the soil stays super wet even in summer in the full sun.
For the unfamiliar, lemon balm is a common herb in the mint family. Grows like a weed, smells and tastes great, drought and freeze resistant, attracts pollinators when flowering, doesn’t mind being indoors.
These insects are plaguing the hot pepper plants in our greenhouse, and last year they killed the pepper plants that we brought indoors. I haven’t noticed them being a problem when it was warmer out, I’m assuming the ladybugs were keeping them down.
I cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol just now, in case it’s a fungal infection. Last watering was on the ~18th of last month, before it overwinters with little to no water. It’s soil is a mix of extreme grit with a mixed shell of more normal soil around the outside. Terracotta pot. It gets exactly seven hours of bright, direct artificial light under a 200w grow light each day.
Planted a carrot top a few months back expecting it to flower and give me some seeds. I had to dig it up the other day because of moving and found this insane mess
I turned the grow lights on early this year to grow some potatoes, which I’m sure is a totally a great use of energy. I’m really hoping to grow another round of starts after not having a very good year this year due to keeping our potatos in smaller pots and us not getting a ton of rain. Next year I’ll put them in a much larger planter.
Hi All - I’m thinking about getting a drip irrigation system for my garden and was curious if anyone here has tried one. Anything that has worked well, or not so much? Brand recommendations? Rain Bird and Hunter have come up in my searches so far. Other considerations a beginner wouldn’t think about? I’m in the US, so I also need it to be able to be shipped here.
Might be watering them inadequately, missed the peak growing season, which is summer (most likely, though some are still growing) impatient or all of the above but I feel like that’s the size they grow, apparently I’ve read somewhere that they’re of the “ornamental” variety which means they’re that size when they’ve matured, but the picture shows a bigger size. They’re Thai Dragon Chilies. Unless I wait until next year to see if they grow bigger or to move them to a bigger pot.
It’s been a good year. It’s probably past time to pull out some of the summer stuff and plant some fall crops but I always have a hard time pulling out healthy plants. The tomatoes in particular look good but have very little fruit.

Je m’en sers comme réserve de branchettes pour greffer et multiplier les arbres fruitiers.
Sauf un, ces arbres sont trognés tous les ans en hiver entre décembre et janvier.
C’est un super laboratoire à ciel ouvert aussi

This year’s vanilla harvest starting, and with the hot weather, moving fast. This year I’ll harvest around 100 pods which I’ll process into cured vanilla over the next few months.
Aphids of some sort? They’re all over my patty pan squash and pumpkins. It’s too late to save them this year (the plants are dead / yucky now) but I do want to know if I should get rid of them, somehow, and how to keep them from coming back next year.
