We’re not ghosts. We’re programs running on biological computers. Electrical charges and chemical signals coursing through fatty tissue. Reality is far more fascinating than any fiction we’ve ever come up with.

Electrical charges and chemical signals coursing through fatty tissue.

Akshualy, it’s not electrical charges (like, plugging a wire) but cascades of ion potentials triggering. Main difference is speed (neurons/nerves being way slower) and built-in touch-sensitivity.

And also not programs, since we are hard- and software in one.

Even a hardwired program is still a program. And we still don’t really know how all of this works.

You’re a lump of electric meat piloting a bone mech with meat armor.

The cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.

– Carl Sagan in Cosmos.

Shame such a large part of the local thinking universe wants to deny the truth of itself lately.

And for some reason, it’s not available on D+

Stars are the source of everything except for hydrogen afaik

I’m 40% hydrogen.

Bite my shiny metal ass

By moles, perhaps, but surely not by mass.

There’s a lot of primordial helium as well.

Woodstock Joni Mitchell

“We are stardust, billion year old carbon”

I can’t listen to this song without ugly weeping about the human condition. We’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.

I feel that. But as role model Don Henley once said also, “don’t look back, you can never go back.”

What follows is perhaps the most 90s performance ever: https://youtu.be/kNBQU3sFyu8

David Henley was struggling to come to terms with a lost fling. I’m struggling to come to terms with the devil’s bargain. Hensley wanted to get his girl back, I want to lose the smog. I dream of the bombers turning into butterflies.

We can be cogs in something turning. We are stardust. We are golden.

Beautiful.

In the immortal words of Robin Pecknold,

And I don’t, I don’t know who to believe

I’ll get back to you someday soon, you will see

If I had an orchard, I’d work til I was sore

May I point you to “The Greatest Show on Earth” from Nightwish? Inspired by Dawkins’ book.

We are made of star stuff. This is why I often think my right hand is Natalie Portman.
